Who: Flighty Broad #1 (
fluthlu) and Flighty Broad #2 (
rainbowed)
What: Rose and Kanaya attempt to hang out... with books...
When: Friday, May 18th
Where: The library!
Rating: Like PG-ish
In all honesty, few things are more nerve-wracking than inviting an alien to "hang out". After all, she isn't precisely sure what trolls do for fun. It's been nearly a year since Rose has actually seen Kanaya, and all she can remember doing with the troll during that brief time is perhaps a bit of pleasant, only vaguely awkward sitting and chatting.
In the end, going with the library doesn't seem like the most exciting choice, but Rose sure does seem to be enjoying herself, judging by the stack of books nearly blocking her face as she makes her way back to their shared table.
"I'm afraid I haven't found much stocked in the way of vampire romance, but there is a nice volume here on Malaysian demons that looks delightful." She looks a bit more intrigued by this than a 13-year-old girl should.

...Still, she isn't very good at masking the disappointment in her voice. How on Alternia does a magic castle not have acceptable reading material for, well, Alternians? She knows that Rose has probably been very thorough in her search, so she's almost certain it's the castle's fault.
"Do you believe that making a polite inquiry to the castle regarding the addition of more rainbow drinker novels would work?"

Rose takes a seat opposite Kanaya, and thumbs through some novel with a bloody knife on the front. One eyebrow raises in piqued interest before she puts it down.
"I came across a shelf with sewing patterns last summer, if you would perhaps like to give up the search for rainbow romance, and pursue simpler pastures." Of course, it being a multi-story library, she doesn't quite remember where that shelf might have been...

She begrudgingly nods at Rose's suggestion, though. "If that's all this place is good for, then sure." She shuts the werewolf book and pushes it aside, deciding to stand up. "I mean, not even pale romance...?"
And now she's mumbling to herself about this whole mess. "Where is this sewing shelf?"

"The majority of its residents do seem to be humans, but it would be useful to keep in mind that Earth is not the only planet to house my species."

It isn't anything related to what she's currently in the mood for, but it'd have to do for now. She decides to glance up towards the higher shelves before replying to Rose's next statement. "Oh? Have you met other humans from alien planets, then?"

Rose scans the basketry shelf, and notices that the surrounding books seem to follow the craft theme. Letting her eyes wander up, she lets out a satisfied hum when she finally sees what she's been looking for.
"Look, up there." She gestures to a shelf about three and a half feet above their heads. "I belief that's the shelf I remember. Quite a few books of patterns, clustered together."

There's a small ladder standing very close to where they're presently situated, and Kanaya wastes no time in retrieving it and setting it besides the bookshelf. "Just one more moment, please."
She begins to climb the ladder and promptly picks out the first book she lays her eyes on. "Pattern Magic. 'Pattern Magic is the cult pattern-making book from Japan. Taking inspiration from nature, from geometric shapes, and from the street, this book harnesses the sheer joy of making and sculpting clothes'... This sounds like an excellent resource."
She's eagerly going through each book on the shelf right now. This is better than she'd imagined!

"I thought that you would find them useful."

That is, until she notices what seems to be the Holy Grail of sewing books.
It's simply titled The Complete Book of Sewing, but it's a very hefty book, and Kanaya can tell that it holds information unfamiliar to even her, someone who has been sewing for quite a few sweeps.
The problem now is figuring out how to take it out from the shelf.
Kanaya glances at the six medium-sized books in her hands, and decides to try to tuck a few under her arm in order to remove this last book from the shelf. It's so thick that it won't budge with the pulling force of one hand, and Kanaya decides she has to be a bit more resourceful than that.
Sure, tucking an extra book under her arm and deciding to hold the last one with gritted teeth probably isn't the best idea (nor is it the classiest way to do things), but Kanaya is bent on removing this sewing bible. Sadly, it still looks like it's tightly wedged in between the other books, and it won't budge one bit.
She decides to apply a lot more force to it, choosing to steady her weight with one leg propped up against the shelf. She tries one last time, pulling at the book with all of her might.
Unfortunately, this is a Really Bad Idea.
The book slips into Kanaya's hands easily, but because she hasn't accurately calculated the sudden added weight to her current load, she loses her balance from the ladder. In her shock, she drops the new book, the book in her mouth, and the books she's tucked underneath her arm almost immediately. She, too, falls from the ladder and lands painfully on her behind.

Rose steps away from the ladder to get a better look at what her friend is up to. Unfortunately, her timing turns out to be abysmal. Worse than abysmal, even, for no sooner has she planted her feet than Kanaya loses her grip on the books; Rose does not even have time to finish her sentence.
Thump. Clunk. Whack. The books fall in a rustling clatter, the last two landing noisily on the floor with their pages all askew. The first one, however - the mother-of-all-sewing-volumes - does not take so fortunate a course. Rose lets out a sharp yelp as the book strikes her directly over her right temple, and then, without even a moment's pause, she tips over and crumples right into Kanaya. Her eyes scrunched shut, she remains motionless.
