It wasn't anything in particular, really. Aradia was just dropping by Kanaya's room to see how she was doing, what she was working on, expedition expedition expedition, et cetera. For some reason, the closer they came to their departure date, the harder it got for her to focus on actually leaving. It had to be the castle, trying to keep her here, safe in its clutches. But she was fighting the idleness whenever she could, for what difference it made, and little by little they were making progress.
She stifled a yawn as she made her way down the corridor to her friend's respiteblock. Must be her messed-up sleep cycle kicking her again, she assumed. She assumed wrong, of course. The urge to close her eyes grew more powerful with every step she took, and her body felt very heavy all of a sudden.
She had just enough time to knock on Kanaya's door - three knocks, sounding halfhearted even to her own sponge clots - and then to realize that maybe something was wrong with her after all, before she passed out and crumpled into a heap at the threshold.
Shh, only dreams now.
