He eyed her suspiciously. "You're not going to dunk my head under the water or something when I get over there, are you?"

He waded through the water towards her carefully, the displacement making him slow and clumsy, enough so that he kept his eyes cast down towards his feet, even as he spoke.

"New people always attract the attention of the curious." Now that he knew about it, he'd stay aware of it. But he wasn't going to go looking for trouble just yet. He had her back, whatever the case.
