sorry to SPOIL the fun

Despite the snow and the cold, Stephanie is out and about. After finding quite a few pretty necklaces and rings to wear for the upcoming celebration, it makes sense to reward her hard fifteen minutes of thieving by... thieving some more, of course. And causing some general disturbances in the city.

Paradisa is so freakin' boring. It needed to be New Year's already.

Her face is covered by a black mask, obscuring her features, and the rest of her is covered in purple, including her hood and cape. It was time to spoil someone's night.

"Quite a stupid action for one who wants to avoid trouble," Ezio replies. "Or perhaps you didn't think you would get caught."

He removes the knife, but his hand stays wound into her collar.

"You sound familiar... but my friend would never act like this."

Oh, right! Thanks for the new angle, Ezio.

"It's me! Steph, Stephanie, and I'd really appreciate it if you let me go right now..." She almost threatens, but decides it's not a good idea when he has such a good grip on her. And a knife, somewhere.

He doesn't reply -- instead he just reaches to tear off her mask, so that he might see her face.

It's definitely Stephanie Brown under that mask.

"You could have been a little more gentle with that!" She tries to get out of his grasp, but isn't lashing out or fighting him off.

He turns her around to hoist her by her collar, so she must face him.

"Tell me why you are burglarizing this restaurant," he demands. "To what purpose, Stephanie?"

She meets his gaze without flinching, and without one ounce of remorse. She grips his arms, digging her fingers in.

"Put. Me. Down."

He presses her up against a wall, fingers tightening. He's glad he wears armor, to ward off her grip.

"Not without an answer. This is so unlike you."

"I can answer without being manhandled!"

Now she lashes out with her legs, aiming to kick his knee--hard. No restraint here.

Fine, then. Ezio fumbles her when she kicks, but instead of dropping her, he just drops them both –– putting her down to the floor and going with her, so that he might land straddling her, pinning her to the floor.

"Stop," he hisses. "I would not harm a woman."

Her hood slides off her head completely, and she groans in agitation.

"Holy crap, will you get off me?! I'm not gonna run, but I will bash your face in if you don't move in the next five seconds."

And his face is so pretty.

His teeth grit.

"What devil has possessed you? These are not the actions of the girl I know."

"Like father like daughter." It's said with a self-satisfied little smirk. Maybe this was a bit too much, getting into scuffles and arguments before the feast, but it sure was fun. She wasn't worried about her well-being.

"Maybe you didn't take enough notes."

He lets out an annoyed breath, and then he sits back, taking his hands off of her front.

"You are not acting like yourself. It is the castle, isn't it?"

"Sure," she mutters, making a small effort to push herself onto her elbows. Then, her tone changes. "Speaking of the castle, I was thinking about this whole Borgia thing. Killing Cesare every two weeks is stupid, but maybe I focused too much on the possibility of getting caught. Everyone's going to be partying on New Years, so that would be such a good time to make an accident happen. That sounds like more fun than outright murder, if you ask me. You could always do the stabbing stuff later. Change it up every time. Very sneaky."

Ezio is torn.

He would love so much to take her word on this and go after Cesare now, without hesitation. He could take his enemies off guard and end him swiftly, and do it again in two weeks' time. And then what?

But Stephanie won't endorse this forever.

"Stephanie," he growls. "Are you sure?"

"I'm always sure. This is a great opportunity to start something that could be entertaining for months and months. I mean, if he has no idea who it is that killed him, he'd probably go crazy from paranoia alone. You might be a suspect, but--oh, I could even get in on this. Who would suspect the cute blonde, right?"

She sounds way too excited.

Now that's even more tempting. If there's anything that he dislikes about Stephanie, it's her naïvety about the necessity of death in changing the world... but at the same time, isn't that who Stephanie is?

"You would kill?"

She looks at him like he's crazy.

"Uh, yeah. I just said so, didn't I? Now, will you get off me?"

He pauses for a moment, and then gets off her.

Stephanie sits up, rubbing at her hip momentarily.

"I got this stuff, which I would have shown you if you hadn't dropped me like that," she says, pulling out a necklace that glimmers in the dim lighting. "It'd probably be a little too outrageous to incorporate this in the fun, wouldn't it?"

Maybe she'd just keep the pretty stuff. Lucrezia had a lot of it--and a thong, apparently. Stephanie left that behind.

He stands, and then offers her a hand to help her up.

"What would stolen jewelry change in an assassination?"

She looks at his hand, then gets up on her own.

"We could leave something near his body. Doubt anyone would point a finger at Lucrezia, though, but it just being there would mess with her, too."

It didn't need to make sense.

"The more confusion the better, I think."

He shakes his head.

"No, Stephanie. That is now how proper assassinations work. They are a public statement of disapproval, of retribution –– we do not blame innocents. They know it is us, but they cannot move against us without proof. That is how it will be."

"Murder is murder. Screw being proper about it. And it only makes sense to mess with them both, because why just go after him? She's just as likely to be a problem. She's already been a problem."

"No!"

This topic irritates him. He can't have her blessing if it's just to be a common murderer.

"I am not Rodrigo Borgia. Hurting innocent women and children is not my goal; I will not needlessly torture them, even if they have been cruel, because they are not guilty of the crimes I seek justice for."
