[ Matilda Wormwood had a doll that didn't belong to her.

She saved it, mind you. Rescued it to bring it back to Miss Honey but then something happened and before she knew it, a castle.

A castle! The kind that Matilda was certain she read of before but couldn't remember where. Just this made a frown make its way to her face, settling there; she never forgot a book before and she was certain she had read of a castle once.

In the time that would have taken a normal grown person to panic, Matilda clutched the doll that wasn't hers and thought of an adventure. That against all odds, she had somehow walked into one of the wonderful worlds she has read about in her books. A world where everything is beautiful and the sky is always blue and where children can play and run and read and not fear being thrown into the Chokey for hours.

She took one step forward and then another before leaning against one of the pillars, watching the world around her with a small, awe-struck smile. A child who somehow found herself in a brand new story.

After a few minutes she realized that adventure or not, Miss Honey would likely worry for her and that Lissy-Doll should be brought back to her. She also realized she as much as the castle was vast and beautiful, she was alone. Looking at the people who wandered about, she couldn't recognize a single one.

Riding up and tidying her skirt she began to walk around, peeking up at people, uncertainty written on her face. She didn't even know what questions should she ask first. Gathering up her courage she decided to begin with a very polite: ]

Excuse me - which way would take me back to where I came from, please?

[Along the hall walked a tall young man, though he certainly was no Man, dressed in a neat forest green tunic, leggings and thin leather boots. On his back was a quiver filled with arrows and he carried a great bow. After crafting Arya her bow and making her a quiver full of arrows, Legolas had taken to spending more time down at the range. And that was where he had meant to go now.

Of course, that was until he heard the voice of a child. He'd only seen one child int he castle before now, and that was most certainly not counting his loss when he had been a child, so he was quick to glance down towards the voice. Kneeling to her height, the prince gave a smile, trying to look reassuring.]

I'm afraid that you'll not be able to go back, little one. Not anytime soon, I'm afraid.

[ Matilda looks at him with the awe and curiosity of a six years old, as if it is a wonder that he is talking to her at all and to her, it is. Becuase he looks like something that walked out from a book and she looks down at the doll for a moment before lifting her eyes again. ]

Will I be able to go back at all? I don't think Miss Honey will believe me if I tell her I missed school because I've been kidnapped by a magical castle.

[That look earns a small laugh from him. He really shouldn't be surprised by the look, how often did people see elves here? There were only three of them here now and apparently she hadn't met with Lord Celeborn or Lady Galadriel.]

In time, I'm sure that you will be but that is the decision of the castle as to when. I have been told by others, however, that time will not pass without you while you are here. So when you do return, you will return to the exact moment that you departed.

Then no one would know I am gone.

[ and that makes her happy, it does. She smiles, breathes a sigh of relief. ]

Then Miss Honey wouldn't think I took this for myself.

[ she looks down at the doll. ]

It's not mine. I meant to give it to her.

[The relief he felt that she was taking this so well was astonishing. For a moment, he had feared he'd need to console her or that she'd have a fit. So young as she was, she seemed to have a calm head upon her shoulders and that was good for what the castle might choose to do.]

That's very generous, and caring, of you. I'm sure that she'll be pleased, when you return to her.

Now, I believe that introductions are in order. I am Legolas Thranduilion.

Sir.

[ she smiles, nods her head. She knows how to speak to adults. ]

I'm Matilda Wormwood.

Just Legolas, will do. It's a pleasure to meet you, Matilda.

[Please, he's not that old. At least not in comparison to his own people and the other elves here.]

Have you been living here for a lot of time, in the castle?

[ she is a curious one, all questions and careful listening. A child and a little adult at the same time. ]

Not long at all, only a few months now. Which is really very little in the grand scheme of things, especially with what tricks the castle plays on us here.

[ she drops her voice to a whisper, in case the castle listens, somehow. For all she knows, it might. ]

What tricks?

[It probably can but he's not sure whether whispering would help or not when it has such a grip upon their souls as someone had once told him. Still, he lowers his voice to match hers.]

Well, already the castle has turned me into a child and I've kissed someone that I didn't love because of its tricks.

-- That sounds mean. It shouldn't make you do anything you don't want.

Mean, yes. It is very mean but, luckily, so far it's all been quite harmless. Hopefully it will remain so and you'll have nothing but little pranks to deal with while you are here.

[Really, he'd be furious to see a child have to deal with anything too terrible here.]

I suppose I can handle those. Pranks aren't always bad. At my school, my headmistress hates them so much that nobody does them anymore, they're too scared.

Headmistress?

[Terribly unfortunate that schools and headmistresses are a thing that don't quite exist in Middle Earth yet.]

She sounds like quite the bully if none wish to play harmless pranks.

No one likes her.

Once, she threw a girl over the fence by her hair.

[ she cringes. ]

School could have been perfect, if it weren't for her.

By her hair??

[Legolas actually looks horrified and then a bit angry.]

I shall hope that the castle doesn't bring her here. That kind of behavior won't be tolerated.

[By him mostly.]

I really hope it won't either. It looks like a happy place and I don't think Miss Trunchbull would like it very much.

If it does though, I promise you that no one will allow her to behave so atrociously. And if she did come and didn't like it, it sounds as though it would serve her right.
