Who: Peter Petrelli and Open
What: trying to teach himself medicine and failing
When: now!
Where: the clinic
Rating: Oh gosh probably no higher than PG

Peter figured out very early on what his price was for living in this place, but that didn't mean he had to accept it. It was nice to have Hesam around for a while; at least this was someone Peter already trusted from home, someone he could go to without being too embarrassed. Without him was harder but he pushed through much more difficult circumstances in the past. Peter was nothing if not stubborn.

So he took this moment of quiet from the otherwise hectic days of the castle to settle himself into the clinic. There weren't any patients to worry about, so he felt he could spend a few good hours here without being interrupted. He grabbed a random medical book, as well as a medical dictionary, and settled down to read.

With one thing or another distracting him, plus his times when he gave medicine a break, it took him a while to narrow down exactly what he did and didn't know. Things like bandaging wounds or feeling for a pulse came easy; anybody could do that. But CPR or administering shots were things you needed training for, and that's exactly what he lost.

Of course Peter didn't exactly need to keep doing this to himself. He had an electric touch that worked just as well as paddles and his blood had healing qualities beyond any medicine. But Peter didn't want to rely on those abilities; the castle often took those abilities away. Besides, he liked the challenge of testing his limits.

A family trait. He smiled to himself before focusing back on the book.
