What: Trying a tricky spell.

Howl had been busy, both before and since he'd made his journal announcement. By the time the appointed hour rolled around, he'd managed to fill his workroom with a great deal of chalk markings. They were visible in all the corners and most especially on the floor, where there was a five-pointed star ringed round with a circle and a great deal of symbols and scrawled words. It was a testament to how hard at work he'd been that Howl himself was smudged all over with the same white powder, and apparently was too distracted to even notice. He was standing currently at the workbench pressed against one wall, frowning down at an old, rather battered looking book.
