Who: Frodo and YOU!
What: fail gardening
When: morning of April 4
Where: by the orchard
Rating: PG

It is warm enough now that Frodo can walk about barefooted without worrying that he might lose both legs to the frost. He remembers how Sam would start his planting at around this time of the year, just when the seasons turn and the sweet smell of spring is almost here. But not quite.

There is a tin bucket of flower bulbs some ways from the apple tree, set beside the small crouched figure digging little holes into the ground with his hands. He has a pile of pulled weeds and rocks on his other side, having cleared a small patch there for his makeshift garden. Planting the bulbs confuses him though. Which way is up and how deep should it go?

Times like these, more than ever, makes him wish Sam were here to give him all sorts of wise advice, and not only for gardening. He can already imagine one hundred and one quips from the hobbit. But his friend isn't here, yet, so Frodo just keeps squinting at the bulb, hoping some revelation will miraculously come to him eventually.

"Bulbs, is it?"

Will had been crouched down beside the garden as he watched the proceedings with a slight smile.

"Well, I suppose it is that time of year.

Several yards away, this little lady is enjoying her first warm day outside beneath a tree, sitting on a tasseled pillow and reading a thick novel with a questionably raunchy cover illustration. Frodo catches her attention, and she looks up to watch him every now and then, before finally speaking.

"You know," Rose calls out, "I believe the saying goes - 'A watched bulb never grows'? Are you expecting it to perform tricks?" Her tone is dry, but warm.

Apparently, Clementine's favorite way to of greeting Frodo is trying to sneak up on him. She's out enjoying the not-snowy grounds, without her layers of scarves and mittens on top of coats and sweaters.

With her prey seemingly unaware and busy looking at a bulb, Clem jumps over near him with a loud "boo!"

A garden. This is what forms the basis of most rabbit's stories, and Hyzenthlay - while keeping herself crouched within the cover of the rock and weed depsoit - cannot resist watching in wonder as Frodo works. What would grow from it? Carrots? Lettuce? Should she risk nipping at it, when it was young and fresh? Or dare steal the early shoots as they appeared?

Such delicacies she'd only ever heard of, but the tales of the extent of troubles El-ahrairah himself would go through to steal the King's lettuce, or Prince Rainbow's carrots, had her inching a little closer, working her nose to try and pick up a scent of what those bulbs might hold.

Is it talking to you?

[Johnny appears from behind one of the more bigger trees. What he was doing there, we'll never know]
