Quickly lets go of her, when she says "ew" and he sees he got blood on her.

"Sorry! I didn't think I'd actually get any blood on you, I thought the tar would protect you." Doesn't care if he gets tar on him because it's not as gross as blood, but he doesn't want to get his blood all over her. Because that goes from gross to bordering on creepy.
