Kate does take note of Tess' body language though, and even though she keeps her distance, Kate slows down a little. When it comes to her own trauma, she's gotten better at handling guns aimed at her over the years, but this was a whole new circumstance and she's aware she probably overreacted. She doesn't trust Tess, though, and that doesn't help matters.
