Kate turns away, exasperated and angry. Never in her life has she had anyone assume because she's a cop her life is somehow fields of flowers and dancing and singing and all the shit that Kate's life really wasn't at all; maybe a little, maybe after she met Castle but only because he was the first thing in her life that made her ever want to try to be happy again. And even then, living with the constant knowledge of having a price on her head still managed to sully that.

Kate didn't even look at her, instead concentrating on pulling a branch off of one of the overgrowing vines. Since she didn't have a weapon, any kind of blunt object would do at this point, especially since Kate still wasn't sure Tess wouldn't pull her gun again.
