Of course, he's armed. Just because he wouldn't stand a chance doesn't mean he didn't expect things to go south any time he came here. That's a risk he took with every conversation with Joshua, for as long as he's known him, but that could be what kept him around for so long. If he understood the extent of the situation, maybe he would have put more effort into his farewell. That's relatively typical of him though; always coming short of a perfect opportunity.
More annoying is how he instinctively slides his hand into his pocket when Joshua's eyes rest on it. If they crossed paths again, he'd hoped to be able to wave and show how easily he overcame his injuries, but the months of recuperation somehow curved that desire. Not wanting to highlight the change in him, he nods towards the backpack instead, but refuses to break his gaze.
"That doesn't mean I can't be sympathetic." He flashes a biting grin. Trying his best impression of someone taking pleasure in misfortune. "Did she throw you out too?"
