It had taken James a few days to find out where the Colonel was living. He'd started in own tower and not realise how much of the castle there was to search for a door name plate. There was probably a quicker way, he thought, but this was he got to walk around the castle and explore while he looked.
Eventually, he found her on the second floor and was beginning to wonder if this really was a good idea. He wasn't meant to show Muggles his magic, but on the other hand he was an adult and not even in a place where the Ministry of Magic could do anything. And he really did want to change her mind about it.
So, after standing there for several minutes, he finally ruffled his hair and knocked on the door, hoping she was in after the mental torment he'd just put himself through.
