[It took quite a bit of work on short notice, but the castle cemetery has undergone a remarkable transformation this evening. Every grave is decked out in brightly colored flowers, especially marigolds. As night falls, the place will start to glow by candlelight as well. There's a primary table with food laid out, where you can put your potluck dishes, and another small one with some craft supplies. The music playing is upbeat, like it's encouraging you to dance! This is meant to be a happy occasion, after all.]

[Sugary sweetbreads, colorful skulls, candied pumpkin, and hot, thick atole are set up for your enjoyment. However, you're encouraged to bring a dish as well - something that reminds you of a dead or departed friend or loved one, like their favorite food. Go ahead, try a little!]

[Rebekah's still getting used to the castle, but she overheard a celebration, and couldn't help but wander out to inspect it, curious. She's currently making her way through the tables of food, looking at them all curiously. They are unlike the things she is used to eating.

Should she try some?]

[She sure should! Aradia notices an unfamiliar person at the table and approaches from the other side, facepainted of course.]

I have never seen most of these. [She admits, trying not to look alarmed at the girl's face paint] What is this celebration for?

[Aradia is cheerily oblivious to any alarm on Rebekah's part. :D]

For the dead! Although since nobody stays dead in Paradisa, it's also for people who used to live here and have been sent away.

People don't stay dead here?

No, the castle brings them back to life after two weeks. I haven't experienced it myself, but I hear it's a pretty nasty ordeal.

I would imagine so. I doubt coming back from the dead would be pleasurable. I always heard the spirits would not allow for such an imbalance.

The sort of magic it would take, it would upset nature. The spirits.

[Hmm. She shrugs and takes a piece of sweetbread.]

It probably does, if nature spirits are a thing here. I wouldn't really know about them.

I have not heard anyone mention them, but I would assume they exist since people say the castle itself is magic.

[ Arya is currently trying some of the candied pumpkin. She half-expects it to be as awful as the rest of the Earth food, but it actually tastes...normal. Even good. Feeling a bit more daring, she takes a sugar skull as well. ]

[Aradia is going for the sugar skulls at the same time and whoops handbump.] Oh! Sorry.

[ Arya pulls her hand back. ]

[Buuut Aradia also pulls her hand back because whoops awkward. She gestures at the skulls palm-up, though.]

No no, go ahead! I already had a bunch while I was making them, haha.

[ Arya looks from Aradia to the skull. She picks it up. ] ...Thank you.

You're welcome. Have as many as you want. [She grabs one herself and takes a careful bite, cupping her other hand around it to catch the bits that crumble.] Mm. Have we met before? You were on the Lastlook expedition, right?

Yes. [ Why...? ]

I thought I recognized you! You had the wolf, wasn't it? [She dusts a bit of sugar off her hand, then extends it to shake.] I don't think we were ever really introduced. I'm Aradia Megido.

[persequor]

[ Arya stares at her hand uncomprehending. ]

[Aradia glances down at her own hand, momentarily thrown off. Then she chuckles.]

No, no. I am just offering you the traditional Earth greeting called a handshake! You clasp each other's hand firmly as a gesture of good will.

[ nope hand to herself. she's getting damn tired that everything has to be by Earth's standards and customs. ]

I am not of Earth.

[Hm. She lets her hand fall back to her side.]
