Carrying a rifle seems a bit overkill rude for what's apparently not going to be a fight though, so all that Wash will be able to see is a pistol out in the open. Reggie's also hidden a couple of flash grenades as well as a small combat knife in the hidden compartments in his leg armor.

Wyoming isn't going to give Wash the upper hand and acknowledge that he's on his way over the journal, instead waiting about ten minutes before heading to Wash's room to knock on the door. And of course you couldn't possibly have someone knocking on the door without a certain AI commenting on that...
