It had been quite an eventful week. Phoebe had cooked, cleaned, made new friends and had a downright fantastic time of it. But through it all there had been a nagging feeling in the back of her mind that she was missing something. Sure Piper had gone home but that was fate, wasn't it? She had gone home to Leo and the boys and she'd get to know Paige and they'd have a marvelous time together saving the world and fulfilling their destinies.

Their destinies... she hadn't even thought about her destiny or life as a witch this whole week. There were more important things to do, of course, like making sure Peter had a lunch packed before he went to the clinic. What was she wasting time thinking about this for?

She shook her head and smiled, going back to her dusting. She ran the cloth over their dresser, gently moving things out of the way to dust underneath. Her cheerful humming cut off when her hand touched her jewelry box. The wooden box she'd commissioned from Lloyd... the one he'd made 3 of. One for her and one for each of her sisters. She'd never even had the chance to give Paige hers before she was sent home. And now Piper's was hers again, too. She lightly ran her fingers along the triquetra on the cover - cracks starting to form in her cheerful facade with each loop.

"Piper..."

Like a torrent, all the emotions that had been buried the past week rushed over her, bringing her to her knees. A choked sob escaped her lips. Piper... Paige. They were gone. They were both gone. She was alone.

No... not alone. Not entirely. She still had Peter and all her friends... but what was she going to do without her sisters. She'd never been without them before. Not this completely. It was like losing an arm or a leg... or her heart.

"How could you... you bring us together only to pull us apart one by one? That's not just cruel. That's torture. And to not let me feel anything? How dare you. What right do you have to play with people's emotions like this. We're not lab rats here for you to poke at and see what hurts."

She used the dresser to pull herself to her feet, looking around. "Well I'm not going to let you take me down with you. You can take everything from me but I won't stop caring about the people here, or trying to keep them safe from whatever you can throw at us. If anything you've just made me even more determined to do just that. You hear me?" She raised her voice, feeling stronger with the conviction behind her words, "There isn't anything you can do to me or take away from me that will keep me from protecting the innocents of this castle."

She waited for a moment for a response before heading for the Book of Shadows to see if there was anything else in there that might be of help to the people of the castle.
