[It's been a pretty average day at the Lux. No magical time travel, no out of place guests, just a few people who wanted a beer and a decent meal. Nothing out of the usual one way or the other.

Max notices Spike at the end of the bar, and starts to head down in his direction.]

[Of all the places in the castle, the bar feels more like home than anywhere else Spike spends his time. He's never been more relieved to see that it's back to normal. After the week he had, it's the most comfortable place to go to wash away his troubles. At least get away from them for a while.

He turns at the sound of Max's voice, perking up slightly when she comes into view. Just the kind of company he needs.]

How's it going?

[shrugs]

Not bad. Can I get you anything?

[gottaknockhard]

[He usually survives on beer, but today he feels like pushing the luck on his imaginary tab.]

Anything look good to eat? I'm starving.

Neal was messing around in the kitchen today. I could see if he left anything interesting behind.

[He grins -- you're too good to him, Max.]

You know I'm easy to please.

[grins back]

Give me a sec, I'll see what's left.

[He leans over the counter, still smiling.]

[and a little later, she'll wander out with a plate]

I think this is chicken Marsala. Smells like it, anyway.

[Spike may have a starry look in his eye when she comes back with that. Max has always been attractive, but she's beautiful tonight. Funny what gets him to notice.]

More than I was expecting.

[That is ... not the look she was expecting as she place the plate down in front of him.]

No problem. Want a beer to go with that?

[It's not going away. You'd think nobody ever served him food before.]

Sure.

[and with that she'll serve him the beer]

Everything okay on your end?

[He couldn't ask for anything more.]

Getting better all the time.

That's not something you hear too often around here.

[Or at least with more sarcasm, but he's looking on the brighter side.]

You probably get a lot of sob stories coming in.

[shrugs]

Or just general bitchiness. The castle doesn't make living here easy.

[He can't argue that; Spike's done more than his fair share of bitching. Even if he tries to be a quiet drunk, Max is probably well aware.]

And then someone like you comes along with the special of the day.

[ ........ that sounds disturbingly close to flirting. She gives him a bit of a look.]

You feelin' okay?

[Oh, he's definitely flirting. He hasn't even taken his eyes off her to look at his plate.]

Just putting things in perspective.

[this .... is very weird.]

I'll keep that in mind.

[Spike leans back, considering her reply. He doesn't seem to care that he's pushing his luck.]

Do you ever get tired of it?

Get tired of what?

Being the one who has to listen.

It's not so bad. Helps me keep a handle on what's going on around here.

Makes for some good stories, anyway.

[Then, he does something he almost never does... but since he's got such a convenient segue.]
