Who: Duke and whoever of Chimera that wants to tag along
What: Duke wants some solid magic. And there are curious mages
When: backdated to 25th
Where: Somewhere outside the castle
Rating: pg-13 for injuries
So it was a bit late - Duke had intended on doing this the day before - but he'd had things to think about. Like whether he would go through with letting them know he was heading out.
Although he was fairly sure that even if he had gone out on his own, they'd all manage to find him anyway. He was planning on something that would be remarkably noticeable. If he thought about it, it would also be visibly noticeable, given how Dein Nomos gathered magic.
At the very least, it was a way to prevent them from running in at the wrong angle, or trying to stop him when it was working fine.
So around breakfast - it was probably in the middle of that time between dawn and noon - Duke tosses a filter out to Chimera, and wandered outside to wait for anyone who wanted to show to do so. If no one showed up, then he'd just head out on his own, and wouldn't feel bad at all about it.

"Did anyone else mention they were interested?"
no subject
"Sorry I am late," he called. "Yfandes insisted on coming. I hope that does not bother anyone?"

Felix wasn't sure what Duke was getting at. Getting dressed and away from Ashura's doting had delayed his departure awhile.
"Of course I meant what I said, and so here I am, ready, willing, and hopefully able."
no subject
"... oh." He thought you'd planned on leading to the place, Felix. "Unless someone wishes the moderately embarrassing task of making sure I do not trip over anything on the ground, seeking an unclaimed mount would be helpful; can ride."
no subject
"The stables are this way, if you'd rather ride. I can manage either," he said, hoping Duke would take the second option, as he wasn't terribly fond of the idea of Duke hanging onto him for that long.

Felix, Duke is going to assume that 'this way' was somewhere on in the direction you were talking from, and probably beyond that a bit.

He turned back to the group at large. "I've no objection to riding either," Clow said amicably. It certainly beat trying to shift the earth another time for Duke.

Shortly they stopped and dismounted.
"This should be a good spot over here," Felix said, scanning the area. "Duke, your arm please..."
no subject
"Ah." Fine, he'll attempt to offer Felix his arm, listening absently. "Shouldn't sit before me, sides and back of the clear space will be using would be best."

"Are there any grounding spells we can assist with, or should we just keep out of the way?"
no subject
Its a little hand-and-wrist motion, like he was reversing the grip on something, and he holds the odd shaped blade he'd be using to do all this crazy magic shenanigans.

"Is there anything you can tell me about what you're going to attempt? The theory behind it...what we should look for...what should happen when you do it...?"

"The gathering light should begin to taper into a point; point may give off lights similar to green fireflies, which may change to red lights. Red lights may become tangled red strings that move - the dispersion effect will prevent them from passing or reaching me. After that, they should begin to crystallize. Going to make it form above ground; do not seek to plant it." And he'll pause in his thinking about this.
".. won't be able to pay attention to anything else. Not that think there should be anything else that requires attention during this..."

He stopped when he reached a likely location.
"So if that's what it looks like, what is it doing?"
no subject
"The pale blue one is twisting in and down - gathering in mana or aer or ambient magic to crystallize it. Assume it should work as other sorts of gas-states - compress enough of it, gain a liquid, compress it further and gain a solid. The magic am attempting to reach already becomes one, simply trying a way that does not involve centuries of ingesting." Because Duke is human, and it wouldn't work that way for him.
"The other visual effect is.. again, as it is doing. Spreading the gathered mana about so that it does not have a chance to cause ill effects." Since Felix has stopped, Duke may step in place for a moment... then sit where he was standing.
"... May get windy."
no subject
He took a step back, and gave Duke a wry smile. "The warning is appreciated."
no subject
"Well then. Shall we seek cover accordingly?" he said to Clow with a large smile.
