the doctor is in
Who: Yuuya and volunteers.
What: I think there might be a nightmare plot going on right now? There are some logs...
When: Nightmare Plot
Where: The doctor's office at St. PigeoNation's
Rating: PG-13...? Gore, blood, dead bodies
Spoilers for a pigeon dating sim.
There's no mistaking the sterile, tidy white room Yuuya has stumbled into, though the power of dreaming makes it feel both infinite and infinitely small, a claustrophobic space that still stretches on nearly forever.
The curtains are drawn around the cots, obscuring whatever carnage is there. But Yuuya knows - and any glance around the curtain will confirm - that every cot is occupied. Someone is dead in each of these beds.
Outfitted with tools of the medical trade and some less legal equipment (Dr. Iwamine's cleaver has been sterilized and sterilized, but it still looks bloody), Yuuya is equipped for the grisly task of turning lifeless stock into meat. At the other end of the office, the door is locked. The desk is stacked with files, full of the unspoken threat to his only brother's life and future.
It's the same as before, when he'd had to lift the human girl from the floor and turn her into pieces. The poor thing, the poor thing ... but she had just been one human, right?
The place on his wing where the doctor cut him is open and inflamed. Maybe the toxin will kill him before he can get through all the bodies.
It's worth hoping.
Are you another one of the doctor's volunteers? Did he blackmail you, too?
No matter your level of participation, Yuuya isn't likely to be happy to see you.

I never expected a pigeon dating sim to be so srs bizness
Wait. Was that...is someone in here? She tries to lift a hand to push the curtain away, but it feels heavy and stiff. Why can't she move?]
no one did...and then we found someone's head in a box
The neurotoxin is a curse now, but soon it will be a blessing.
A little bloody, tired, and resigned, Yuuya peels back the next curtain and draws in an audible breath.
Metal hits the floor as he loses his grip on the surgical tools in his wing.]
Jane ... ? [His voice is horrified and quiet.]
D8 Oh my God
...
[...Why can't she move her mouth?
Now that she thinks about it, why can't she blink? Is - is she even breathing? What's going on?!]
i can offer you a let's play that will change your opinion of birds forever
[He can't help it.
They should all be dead, but if there's the slightest chance, he has to be certain.
Climbing up on the beside stool to reach the proper height, he checks fro a pulse.]
I could go for that.
Jane's eyes are open, of course, and by now they're darting around, as if she's trying to look for some kind of restraints put on her, but she can't see any.]
no subject
Jane, can you hear me?
no subject
no subject
He can swear he sees her eyes moving ... but maybe it's just wishful thinking? Or the poison, or the little piece of him that consistently fights resignation to Iwamine's whims.]
I see you there! [But he sounds desperate.] You can blink, yes?
Once for yes, twice for no, that whole deal? Ha-ha ...
no subject
oops i'm temporarily without sad bird icons sorry for dissonance
I guess it's finally happened. I snapped! What a weak will. It was probably the doctor's intention all along.
Now I'm talking to a corpse, too? I'm as crazy as he is [No. The doctor's just cruel, he reminds himself. He was always like this.]
It wouldn't do any good to say I'm sorry now, would it? There was only supposed to be one human at this school, ever.
It is a-okay
no subject
What do you even want with her? [Nobody's even here to answer, Yuuya.] You think she's of any use to you?
[He should cover her up, at least. He'll find a sheet ... Yuuya takes a pretty clumsy spill when he goes to look for it. He grabs for the bed to steady himself, but unfortunately ends up grabbing onto her instead as he goes down.]
no subject
...Well, not really. How Yuuya's heavy enough to pull her arm down Jane will never understand, but her fingers brush his feathers almost reassuringly and definitely by accident.
He sounds so upset, though...she wishes she could move to hug him.]
no subject
He leaves her behind long enough to find a clean one and returns to drape it over her face and upper torso, not caring to look as long as he can.
Then he takes up the tools, placing knives and saws in the shallow medical tray beside the bed.]
I am sorry.
no subject
no subject
And Yuuya's a coward, so he cuts fast.]
no subject
Someone's cutting into her ankles.
Jane has never felt any pain worse than this, and she can feel a scream building up in her throat, but she just can't - get it - out!!!!!!
Yuuya, where are you?? Help!!!!]
no subject
There's a solidness in human bones not present in birds. The heaviness stalls him a little, though Yuuya has focused so entirely on work alone that he's shut almost everything else out.
He pauses to wipe his face. Birds don't really perspire, but he writes it off as sweat anyway.]
no subject
The cloth near her eyes begins to dampen. Is she crying?]
no subject
Unfortunately hands don't make for very effective soap substitutes so it doesn't do much at all. He looks up and looks around the room.
Wow... that's a lot of carnage. It's not the first time John's seen dismembered and bloody bodies lying all over the place, but it doesn't get more pleasant to see in time.
He debates calling or help, but considering it looks like someone went on a murdering spree in here, he figures that might not be the smartest plan on is part. ]
no subject
Yuuya turns on a dime, stumbling a little, unsure whether he expects the doctor or a Labor unit or something else.
There's a human here?
Why would there be ... ?]
What are you doing here?
[There's no laughing something like this off. Yuuya unconsciously brushes a bloody wingtip to his cheek, leaving the feathers red.]
no subject
Hitchcock had nothing on this.
John takes a step back, but there's not really anywhere to go, unless he wants to make a dash by the bird. ]
I don't actually know?
[ He looks down there's surgical equipment on a table next to him though. What's up with that? ]
no subject
You're probably with the human opposition, right? I'm pretty impressed that you managed to get in here.
no subject
[ Against... bird murder? Well he's definitely opposed to it! But he doesn't know if that really makes him part of some sort of organized group. ]
Are there more of you guys outside?
[ He's moving forward, trying to find a window to look out of. He doesn't want to fight his way through a army of giant pigeons. ]
no subject
I have absolutely no idea where the doctor is. Other than that...the school might be empty. Who knows?
[He rubs his wounded wing now.] So you're pretty lost, huh? Hope he doesn't expect me to do anything rash.
no subject
John's attention snaps back to the bird, because... something rash? For a guy surrounded by corpses "rash" can't mean anything good. ]
I guess so... Who's the doctor and what kind of rash things are you talking about? Because I know how to fight. Just saying.
no subject
...But, since you're here, I thought you'd know he's been behind this from the start.
[He puts his wings up as if in surrender.] Guess you should probably come after me, too, friend!
[For a split second, Yuuya appears to be confused. They're in the school, but wasn't there someplace else?] Do I know you, my like executioner?
no subject
Isn't there a bird jail he can take this guy to in order to put him on bird trial?
Or maybe not, considering he doesn't even know if he's going to be able to get past the guards. ]
I don't think so. But I didn't actually come to kill you!
no subject
Listen, I've made my choices and there's really no going back, here.
There's nothing quite like getting bitten in the ass by somebody who's not even here to kill you, really.
But the door's probably locked behind you, you should know.
no subject
I could always knock it down though.
no subject
... Do you really think you could do that?
no subject
Sure! No problem.

She remembers falling asleep, and what felt like a bad dream (many bad dreams). Blinking a few times, she contemplates the ceiling, the only thing her eyes can fixate on, gathering her thoughts.

With everything he does, Yuuya is digging himself gradually deeper and deeper. It's too late to turn aside now - and not just because he has his brother's welfare to protect. (But his brother is gone now? No? What a strange thought to have, so suddenly.)
Finding another human - one who, for whatever reason, has some small feature that reminds him of another human girl's - behind another curtain almost makes him laugh.
"What do you want with them?" he asks someone who isn't there.
They're just primates.

Yuuya looks to his tools, to his wound, to the corpse. "It won't matter much soon enough." He'd had his chance to protect Sakuya; like most things Yuuya took under his wing, his best turned out not be enough.
He can just wait the poison out.
"I'm sorry, miss." Where had she even come from? "I'm afraid I don't even know your name."
The room is quiet enough that it's possible to hear the lights buzzing, though it doesn't stay that way for long.
CRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAK.

Biding her time, she doesn't mind. Used to it, even. Biding time while an unknown figure -- figures? Did that shadow move -- is free to do as they like to her? Have a definite no.
Though you may not know my name, I will remember your voice, remember your face, remember everything I can. And by the end of this, I will find you again. The vow settles the trepidation (which she never shall acknowledge), some.

Where the beanpole man is, Iwamine is sure to follow, and if the doctor's eyes are on him, then he can protect what he needs to protect.
It's a weird and almost cyclical logic (never mind that it makes no sense here.
There's something almost alarmingly tender about the way he puts a wing to her forehead before he takes a marker to to her to line out incision.

Why is a bird touching her face and drawing on her.
If she was confused earlier, the state of her mind has now jumped to straight-up "this is too bizarre for processing, please try again later" territory. All questioning thoughts with regard to the creaking noise grant her complete leave, replaced by preoccupation with his close presence and actions.
Shoddy metaphors aside, her eyes widen in astonishment. While she would like to struggle (that ink better not be permanent...), it remains the sole action allowed her.
