Well, that was a different ending that Legolas had expected. And for a moment, he wasn't sure about whether or not they were serious, expecting one of them to tell them they were kidding or to steer him towards the library or something. And that warning about them hearing about any mischief he might cause just kind of ruined the fun of sneaking off.
