Tar, tar everywhere. It was black, sticky, and warm to the touch--which Steph discovered, as it clung to her arms and neck. It didn't take too long for her to realize that many in the castle were being afflicted by this, so she tried to tough through it. It would stop eventually, and she had things to do. There was still a lot to be done in the city, before she and Cass left on the expedition.

However, the more she touched, the more tar seemed to come from her hands.

She wasn't going to be useful to anyone today, let alone herself, she came to realize.

What was the logical response?

To lay down on the grass in front of the castle, of course. Maybe if she didn't touch anything for a while, the sticky goo would recede. In the meanwhile, staring at the sky seems like a good option.

Yeah, castle. She gets the irony. She messes up everything she touches. Ha ha.

She shrugs and shakes her head, still watching Steph's face. "I can always get new dresses."

[secondchances]

"And new hair?" She motions to her own, tacky tar knotting it together at the bottoms. If she didn't suspect this to be a temporary thing, she'd cut it all off.

[heloise]

She reaches to touch the bottoms, frowning. "Your crown..." It just makes her angry at the castle, after all that has happened in the span of days, but she tries a reassuring smile instead.

"I have it in braids, or are you only trying to shoo me away?"

[secondchances]

"My crown smells like the streets of Gotham," she shrugs, though it's appropriate. If she ever did have a crown--one not given to her by Lucrezia--it'd probably be made of asphalt.

She looks at her. "I'm not doing any shooing, just saying. I'm staying out here until I get frustrated enough to mess up my room in the castle with tar, or bored enough to try weird things like sitting in the bath or pool until this is over."

[heloise]

Lucrezia taps her nose with a clean hand, biting back a grin. "That sounds terribly dull. I better keep you company lest you grow mad from boredom."

[secondchances]

Stephanie finds herself a little surprised at the state of Lucrezia's hands. Given what she's said about herself, and some of her actions in Paradisa...

She probably shouldn't think about it too much.

"I wouldn't say no to that."

[heloise]

Maybe the castle does have favorites. Lucrezia isn't sure as to why yet but she isn't about to jinx herself by thinking about the things she should regret anyway.

"I wonder what the ducks will do if you jump in there now."

[secondchances]

"Probably puke, like I would. The duck pond is gross."

[heloise]

She props her head on her elbows, watching Steph with amusement.

"If even the ducks would puke, I wonder which is grosser."

[secondchances]

"Probably the pond. I think duck crap is slightly worse than tar, don't you?"

[heloise]

"The ground we are lying on is probably made of some... duck crap too." The streets of Rome is stained with everything, she knows. She doesn't really mind, quietly drumming on Steph's tummy. "At least in the spring there will be flowers here. Nothing grows from tar."

[secondchances]

The drumming gets a small giggle.

"You make duck crap sound poetic."

[heloise]

"I am quite gifted in the matter," she smirks too.

"But I would rather talk of things other than duck crap." No matter how amusing that sounds. Duck crap. Hm.

[secondchances]

"What would you like to talk about, then?" Anything but tar and duck crap.

[heloise]

She drops her gaze to the grass, now drawing curled patterns on it using her tar-stained finger. It does come off of her eventually.

"Many people would see me spar, is that not strange? Cass would teach me," she shifts her gaze to Steph. "What do you think?"

[secondchances]

"It's important to be able to defend yourself," she replies. Cass is better than Molotov or Ezio, at any rate. "Cass is a great teacher. She helped teach me, back in the day. I may or may not have vomited on her from exhaustion."

[heloise]

She chuckles, poking Steph's tummy playfully, especially since she can't tickle her back, right?

"I have other ways of defending myself."

[secondchances]

She jerks at the poke. Oh, don't tempt her.

"Maybe, but nothing really gets the point across as well as a good punch to the face."

[heloise]

"I can do that already," she smirks. Not really but Molotov showed her how and surely she can do it when it is warranted.

"I like her. Cassandra, she is the sweetest."

[secondchances]

"She really is. You'll never meet anyone else quite like Cass."

[heloise]

She fiddles with Steph's hair then, trying her best to untangle the tar from it, since she knows it won't stain her as badly.

"Tell me, how did you meet her?"

[secondchances]

It's an obvious question, but one Steph didn't think of a good cover for. Whoops. Time to wing it.

"We both had the same teacher, at one point. He introduced me to her. I saw her practicing self defense, and it was awesome. It just kinda went from there."

Okay, that's mostly the truth. She just left out all the boring Batman stuff.

[heloise]

"You never offered to teach me," she barely stifles a smirk, obviously teasing. "I would have chosen you in a heartbeat."

[secondchances]

"Cass can teach you more." And probably won't have as many awkward moments with her, either. "She's the one you'd want to learn from."

[heloise]

"I do not need to be very good, just good enough to escape anyone who means to hurt me," it still seems farfetched that anyone would, at least not physically.

"We could train together. You can watch me be clumsy for once," this isn't just an excuse to spend more time with both of them, nope.
