Tar, tar everywhere. It was black, sticky, and warm to the touch--which Steph discovered, as it clung to her arms and neck. It didn't take too long for her to realize that many in the castle were being afflicted by this, so she tried to tough through it. It would stop eventually, and she had things to do. There was still a lot to be done in the city, before she and Cass left on the expedition.

However, the more she touched, the more tar seemed to come from her hands.

She wasn't going to be useful to anyone today, let alone herself, she came to realize.

What was the logical response?

To lay down on the grass in front of the castle, of course. Maybe if she didn't touch anything for a while, the sticky goo would recede. In the meanwhile, staring at the sky seems like a good option.

Yeah, castle. She gets the irony. She messes up everything she touches. Ha ha.

"You died."

That seems like enough of an explanation to Cass. She'd lost Stephanie and she thought it had been for good. Of course she's the most important thing in Paradisa for Cass.

She smiles, sadly. Right. The tar on her hands was a good reminder of that, too.

"I do come back eventually, for you, you know. It takes me a while, but I come back to Gotham."

[hellofist]

Reaching under the water, Cass takes both of Stephanie's hands in hers. She doesn't care about the tar, she just doesn't want her dwelling on what it represents.

"Good. I need you. Only have... Bruce, if you're gone." She gives Steph a smile then, because when is making fun of Batman not something Stephanie loves? "Not exactly... best conversationalist."

Not that Cass was either, which is why she needs Steph around. One of them has to do the talking.

"You have me. Totally." She smiles and squeezes Cass' hands, firmly. As long as Cass was in Paradisa, Steph would do anything she could for her. It was the least she could do, really.

[hellofist]

Covered in tar or not, naked or not, that kind of statement demands a hug and so Cass does exactly that, slips her arms around Steph's waist and hugs her tight.

"You have me, too. Forever."

Tight hugs are the best hugs, and Steph returns it happily. She rests her chin on Cass' shoulder. Forever is a funny thing, especially since it feels like forever since she's seen her in Paradisa, not to mention forever at home, but a part of her hopes Cass is around for a while. It's been lonely without her.

"I know. Without a doubt."

[hellofist]

"Good. Shouldn't doubt friends, right?"

Maybe she should let go, but she doesn't. Being close to Stephanie is too nice and like this, without even clothing separating them, it's too good to pull away from. She can't lose her if she never lets go. So she just turns her face so it's against Steph's neck and closes her eyes, enjoying this while she can.

"Right."

Cass' warm is just as good as the water. The way Cass and Tim have been holding on to her is a little overwhelming, but not necessarily bad. She's never felt so loved and needed before. The circumstances could be better, but she's happy, and intends on keeping the both of them happy, too.

[hellofist]

"Think we could just... stay here, all day?"

That might be a little selfish, stealing Steph away from the rest of the world for awhile, but Cass can't really bring herself to care about that.

[secondchances]

"Might not be a bad idea," she replies. Hanging out with her best friend is nice, and not being totally covered in tar is just another incentive. It's not like she can be useful anywhere else right now.
