Old friends, memory brushes the same years

Who: Tex and North Dakota
What: Talking, all the talking, probably more talking.
When: After the LW events
Where: Castle grounds
Rating: pg-13 for language

If you need to talk there are few people better to talk to than North. He was by far the more pleasant of the twins but above and beyond that he was just a really good guy. He was one of the few Freelancers who was actually willing to give her a chance when she was first introduced. He’d given her a fair shake then and she was willing to bet he’d still do it.

All things considered she felt like she owed him that much too; she needed to know he was as ok as he could be given the situation. So when time permitted after the dinosaur island clusterfuck; she’d made contact and asked him to meet her here on the grounds of the Castle.

Ostensibly it had been to make sure he’d gotten through things ok, but she knew the conversation would come around eventually and that was more or less hat she needed right now. With everything else going on she needed him to be him and give her one stable thing that she could depend on.

Well, it was a little awkward, to be sure, finally hearing from Tex. He'd never really disliked her, even if he didn't trust her right away. And honestly, he'd be one of the few to step up and speak well of her if it came down to the line. See, North could see the inherent good in people. He wasn't a blind optimist--he had his moments--but he certainly knew when to give people the time of day.

So, there he was, meeting Agent Texas. Awkwardly. He walked up in casual clothes, hands in his pockets, giving a little nod and a wave as he approached.

Well, he was used to things like this, to being the intermediary or the one everyone at least felt like they could trust. And it wasn't something he accepted lightly. He knew it was part of his responsibility, part of his dynamic within the group to be there for as many people as he could. It was effortless, for the most part. Just a natural thing.

But facing down Texas for the first time in a long time? Perhaps the most awkward thing he could possibly have done.

...Or not. She seemed to be pretty amiable.

"I'll say this much: if I could get rid of half of the bull here, I'd be happy."

Alright, he wasn't really scared, but after dealing with South and Carolina, he was officially wary of any Freelancer lady he came up against. There might've been something in the water, for all he knew. Crazy water.

But he also shrugged and glanced around a bit as he answered. "You probably have a point, there. That's really all I've seen since I got here, and, well... hasn't turned out for the best." A pause. "I'm doing well, all things considered. You haven't been here long, right?"
