Too bad for you, that's just what happened.

At the stroke of midnight, everyone will find themselves back in their assigned castle rooms -- except they're not exactly the same as they were left…

Telling stories connects people together. It's a way to talk about things that may or may not have happened, and it wouldn't matter either way because the magic of the storyteller's words makes you believe. And it immortalizes the subject.

Like you, Lucrezia. People tell stories about you and it keeps your memory alive.

[ She would still die, but if stories are a form of immortality-- she smirks, playing along. ]

You could tell stories of me when I am gone. Good ones that stun and terrify and leave them in tears if not in awe.

I'd be more than happy to do that, Lucrezia. I'll tell of the lady Borgia, and her very first trip to the Land of the Rising Sun. How she dazzled the natives and everyone she passed got down on their hands and knees to bow in respect to her.

[ That draws a laugh out of her. ]

I would rather be adored than respected. They could kiss my hand instead.

That's not really how they do things here, but I can change the story.

And I can make it true.

I'm sure you could. [his eyes twinkle in amusement] But you better get started. We're only here for a week or so.

Having one of them kiss my hand is easy. Tell me more.

What more would you like to hear? How the samurai would fight for you, if they were still around to do it?

No. [ She bites her lip and leans back to think. ]

I would rather have you in my story too.

And what would you have me do in your story?

[heloise]

Whatever you wish. The story is as much yours as it is mine now.

I'm doing what I wish right now, which is enjoying a conversation with you. I could spend all day with you, but that would just be selfish.

Not if I wish the same, is it?

[he leans forward, smiling at her] You just want to hear more stories.

[heloise]

[ She returns the gesture too, though her smile is more mischievous. ]

I want to hear more of your stories.

I'll be glad to tell you more, Lucrezia. But don't forget to get out there and enjoy Tokyo, too.

But what is a city if not its people? You and I too, now.

Then I'm officially inviting you to tour the city with me. I won't take "no" for an answer.

[that gives him a pause while he thinks of something that Lucrezia would enjoy]

Well, I just told you a story about a Shinto shrine, so we could go visit one. There's the Meiji Shrine. It was dedicated to the emperor who opened Japan to the West. Or maybe Yoyogi Park if you want to watch local talent. Sometimes they have music or even play rehearsals.

[ Everything. She really isn't difficult to please. ]

The park then. Shall we go now? Will they still be playing?

Oh, there's always something going on at the park. And whatever it is, it'll be fun to watch.
