Well, it had been a disappointing game in a way. Slytherin lost to Hufflepuff of all houses. But Six really wasn't all that upset about it. Some of the others might take it as the end of the world, but she wasn't one of them. She'd mostly came out to support her house.

Well, now that things have calmed and the initial rush is over, Six is going to make her own way back to the castle. She doesn't exactly expect anyone to bother her, and she's prepared to hex someone if they do try anything stupid.

Which means it's definitely time for someone to bug her, of course!

Shane has been looking everywhere for that one girl, the one who's had his attention since the first time he saw her, and well... The search isn't going well. She's tougher to find than a Snitch. But, confident after having just drawn victory from the jaws of defeat against Slytherin, the indomitable Hufflepuff begins to search the grounds near the pitch.

Relief floods him as he sees her, then a strange sort of apprehension. Is it really okay to do this after he's defeated her team in Quidditch? But he shakes it off, cupping his hands around his mouth and shouting to her.

"Six! Hey, wait up a sec!"

Right on schedule, that would be someone bugging her. But Six does recognize the voice calling her name enough to stop, looking at the speaker. The Hufflepuff Seeker. Well, this was unexpected.

It also didn't sound like he was planning just to rub it in. That really didn't seem the Hufflepuff's style anyway, even if she cared enough for it to bother her. "What is it, Shane?"

Now he's suddenly nervous. She turned around. She noticed him. She responded.

Why is he nervous? He can feel a tiny knot in his stomach as he walks up to her, all smiles. He dusts his hands off on his Quidditch robes before giving her an easy shrug.

"Do you have a minute to talk?" Because everyone is slowly moving on, no one is staring, and it's do or die time.

Six is watching Shane carefully, appraising the situation. "As long as this isn't intended to be part of some kind of prank to celebrate your victory? I think I can make some time, Shane."

He's a Hufflepuff, sure, but he's not bad to look at. The other Slytherins might not appreciate it after the loss, but who she talks to is her choice.

"It's definitely not a prank." He looks around a bit, taking a deep breath to still his nerves. Come on, Shane. "Actually, the timing's kind of bad... When I think about it, I'm guessing it might not go so well."

Then he shrugs, stepping in just a little closer. She's beautiful; he's had eyes for her since moment one. And he's just going to have to work up the nerve, here...

All right. That was getting a smirk from Six. This definitely could prove interesting. He's nervous. There's not that many reasons he would be approaching her like that.

Six responds, not even trying to hide her amusement. There's no anger. No disdain. She suspects whatever he wants will be interesting. "Worried I might be angry about your team winning?"

Yeah, go ahead, be amused. He might even deserve it. What he's about to do next might earn him some kind of mockery.

"Maybe... I mean, I don't think you're that kind of girl. But if I don't make a big deal out of it, you know, you can't really get mad." He hopes.

Six smiles. "You're lucky that you're right. I'm not that kind of girl... Some of the other Slytherins, you'd have been hexed."

"I'm not looking to get hexed." Jokingly, he puts his hands up in an imitation of a placating manner. Keeping cool is key, and if he can just loosen up and do this right, everything will be fine.

"I'm not even looking to cause any trouble." Shifting a bit, he takes a deep breath.

"Actually, I just wanted to ask you a question."

"Smart of you."

Six chuckles at the nervousness. "Ask your question, since we've already dealt with all the house rivalry issues."

Now or never, right? Before he finishes school and everything.

"Well." Alright, alright, just a smile. "I think you're great. I mean, you're smart, you're gorgeous, you're tough, and I really like that. I'm wondering if you might consider going on a date with me."

There. It's said.

That... Wasn't exactly what Six was expecting. But she's looking him over. Handsome. Smart. And he's definitely got guts to be asking a Slytherin out.

"Yes. I would."

Aaaand now Shane looks visibly relieved, his smile broader as he steps in just a little bit closer.

"I admit that I didn't think this through more than the part where I get up the nerve to ask you out finally and you give me an answer, so I'm kind of floundering for something to say now. Like where to go or what to do."

Honesty is the best policy. He really hadn't thought she'd say yes. He might be the nicest guy in the whole damn place, but she's a Slytherin, and by gravy that's probably the worst idea he could have had, as a Hufflepuff. Maybe he let himself think house affiliation would trump his earnestness.

But now that he's faced with a yes, he finds himself a bit unprepared.

"Dinner at Hogsmeade? Just a walk around the grounds?"

Six is highly amused. "Figured as much. And I'm betting you were expecting to get a no anyway. Let's start things with a walk around the grounds for a first date. If that goes well, we can talk about Hogsmeade."

Well, better amused than angry or put-off! He's glad for the little break, there. She's obviously just being a bit more tolerant than most.

"So let's go for a walk."

Six nods, holding out a hand. "Let's go then. It'd be nice to get to know you better."

He hadn't meant right now, but he's taking her hand and moving in a little bit closer so he can just take a nice, deep breath. Of course, he can't stop smiling and he doesn't want to ruin the moment, so there's a bit of a silence.

"I'd really like to get to know you better. Honestly, I've wanted to for a while."

Six looks to Shane, watching him carefully. "Why didn't you say something sooner, Shane? I would have welcomed the chance. I still do."

"Why didn't I--" Oh, man. That's a damn good question.

"I guess I thought you'd say no." He knows he has a lot to offer her, from his big heart to his easy smile, but he always wondered if she actually could see that. "I should've tried a little sooner, huh?"

"You should have. It's not like any of the rest of my house are that interesting to me. And most people outside won't look at Slytherins."

Six chuckles. "So, tell me about yourself, Shane."

About himself? Okay, well, isn't that the hard part? He wants to ask her all about herself instead, but she started it, so now he's going to roll with it.

"Well... I've got a younger sister. You knew that already, right? She's in your house. And I have a toad named Theta. He's great, little pink streaks on his back. I mean, what about you? Any pets? Siblings?"

Six isn't quite as open about herself... At least, she wants to know more about him first.

She nods at that. "I'm not friends with her, but yes, I'm well aware of my housemates. It's smart to be."

There's a bit of a pause. "I don't have any siblings. And I'm not exactly a pet person. Didn't see a reason to start once I got here."

It's alright if she doesn't want to be that open. Honestly, he's content at this point to just stare at her longingly and--no, he's not that bad. But he does just want to spend time with her, regardless of the content of it. Quality over quantity, still.

"He's just part of the package. I guess he makes me feel a little more at home." With a smile, he tips his head to the side. "I wanted a dog, but you know... they're tough to sneak in."

Six smiles at that. "I can see why you'd feel that way, Shane. It's something from home here. Especially if you've had it for a while..." She smirks at that. "Too bad dogs are against the rules. They're fussy about that. I don't understand why. With everything else, why not dogs?"

"He's something else. You wouldn't think something that small could have a personality, but he does." Thinking, thinking... What might impress her? Well, okay. Just being himself, hopefully. The truth.

"Actually, I, uh... I taught him some tricks. Maybe I can show you later. I wouldn't trade him for a dog or anything, but if I could have both, that'd be nice."

Six smiles. "Even the smallest animal has some amount of personality. You just have to get to know them, right?" She pauses at that. Tricks? Really? She didn't think those kinds of pets could be that interesting. "What can he do?"

Oh, man. That smile is going to kill him. It's going to knock him right over and he's never going to recover. It's the best thing he's ever seen. And he just smiles right back.

"Well, he..." ...Totally distracted, he goes quiet for a second, then shakes his head and continues. "I trained him to jump on cue. Doesn't sound like much, but I can get him to jump into things and on things, over things, and I even taught him a little choreographed thing to some music."

Six nods. "Well, seeing as he's only a small animal, that's not too bad, Shane. They aren't always the smartest."

"He's smart!" He waves his other hand emphatically. "Smarter than most, I think. I mean, he never just sits there. I swear he tries to read my textbooks." It's true! He's convinced Theta is almost intelligent life.

"Shane, I really find that hard to believe... Maybe you should introduce me to him sometime?" Six smirks slightly. In other words, she doesn't intend for this to be the only time they spend together...

"Find it hard to believe all you want. I know I did, at first. But he's special. That much I know." Maybe he sounds a little silly talking about a pet toad, but whatever. As long as she's not walking away, he's doing okay for himself.

And then he realizes... Yeah, she's basically implying that she'd like to see him again, and he's all for that. Squeezing her hand tighter, he moves in just a little bit closer.

"So... what's your favorite place on the grounds?"

Six is very amused. "I think everyone says that about their pet."

She's letting him get closer. Six isn't trying to pull away, happy enough to let the Hufflepuff close. "I happen to be fond of the lake. IT's nice to sit by it and relax on a nice day."

"Then let's go to the lake." He moves that way, pointing with their joined hands. "Nobody's even going to care, right? They're all celebrating. And honestly... right now I'm happier doing this."

Because yep, she's amazing. And she's letting him get close and letting him relax, slowly going back to being calm, relaxed.

Six can't help a mischievous smile. "We can celebrate your victory in our own way. And I'm happier not having to deal with my house moping."

She's heading along, not letting go.

"Celebrate?" Oh, nope, he just... Yeah. His face almost hurts from smiling. He actually has to look away.

"Well, if you think sitting around and talking is celebrating, I'm alright with that."

Six chuckles softly at that. He's absolutely adorable... She likes being able to make him happy like this. "It's better than the overly enthusiastic partying that I'd expect from so many of the others, Shane. If you feel the same..."

"No, I'm pretty sure being around you is making me feel even better than winning the game." Wait, is that too cheesy? He thinks it might be, so he's ready with a retort that he's just joking, if it becomes necessary.

Six eyes Shane at that, blushing slightly. That's a really nice compliment... One that she'd not really expected from him. "You really mean that?"

She's not angry. Just... Not used to compliments like that.

((OOC: We worked out roughly how this goes with Nini dropping. Mainly continued romantic awkward cuteness.

We're playing it out in a log over in Six's journal to give a chance to try to wrap it up completely in detail though rather than handwaving it all. My hiatus for most of August made it difficult to get this wrapped up sooner.
