Thorin was downright furious having awoken this morning and discovering that his voice was not working. There had to be someone responsible...

He had already voiced his rage through a note scribbled in his journal to the other residents. When he'd said he was sharpening his weapons, he'd been entirely serious! Thorin planned on taking his rage out on whoever was responsible, whenever he got his hands on the wretched cur!

Thorin sat on the floor of his room, which he was slowly adjusting to. There was a blue carpet on the floor with silver trim that he'd grown surprisingly fond of...considering it was a carpet. That was where he sat, his sword Orcrist in his lap and a sharpening stone in his hand. Beside him on the floor all his other, smaller weapons were lined up, waiting to be sharpened. Thorin's other hand gripped the hilt firmly as he slowly slid the stone along the blade of the sword. His mouth was fixed in a snarl, and if his voice box hadn't been effectively silenced, he would have been heard growling to himself.

His only recourse for communication now was the journals...which he still didn't trust. But unfortunately for him, he would have to deal with it.

Thorin glanced up, somewhat surprised at his new companion. It wasn't often that Thorin got visitors. He waved off the lad's apology.

"Worry not, lad," Thorin set the stone down on the floor and did the same with his sword before looking up to the boy in glasses. "We were all new to the castle at some point or another - I myself have been here about a month."

Thorin stood and crossed his arms before his chest. He tilted a brow to the young man before him.

"What's your name, lad?"

"Harry Potter, sir." He gave the dwarf a small smile. He wasn't sure how to react around someone who looked like they had been pulled from the middle-ages. Perhaps he had. Could people be pulled from any time period from anywhere? Harry's mind boggled at the thought.

"You have been here around a month, you say? What do people do around here to keep themselves busy. Do they work or is there some other way the castle keeps people inside?"

Thorin shakes his head as he chuckles slightly.

"Had you come a mere few days ago lad, you would have seen how the castle keeps us...entertained..." Thorin rubs his throat, a dull ache growing where his voice box was.

"There are adversaries that will occasionally appear. That, and the castle..." how to explain this? "Think of the castle as a living thing. Certain things amuse it, and the castle will make those things happen. It has the ability to magically inflict punishments upon us, even if we do nothing wrong by our own standards.

"For example, I once saw a lass forced into a cat costume and forced to act like a cat - there was nothing she could do to prevent the behavior."

"People forced against their own will to do things? Who is in charge of this castle? Do you know?" Harry knew nothing. He was new, so had no idea about the dangers. This man seemed to know a lot about what went on. He seemed very bitter about it too.

"Ha! Your guess is as good as mine, lad!" Thorin exclaimed. "Only just recently did we find ourselves embroiled in a conflict against these beings that called themselves the Gentlemen that claimed the lives of four people..."

Thorin's voice shook a bit at that. He should have done more. He should have fought harder, he should have argued harder with the others over investigating the Gentlemen and planning an attack.

"It's a cruel castle that seems to be its own master..."
