Who: Mal and anyone
What: Mal needs a drink. Badly.
When: After the Gentlemen
Where: The Death Match
Mal flops onto the barstool and throws his hand up to get the bartender's attention. He's so sick of death and dying, feels almost like it follows him wherever he goes, even to crazy planets called Paradisa that he's never heard of. He takes a slow sip of his drink, letting the liquor slide down his throat. Can't a man just get some peace?

She slides onto a stool next to a man who is enjoying a drink, and Emma orders a drink as well. She takes a large sip of it when it's placed in front of her, and then turns her head slightly to look over at the man next to her.
"Some place, huh?"
no subject
"Some place indeed. Take it you ain't been here long?"
no subject
"And you're not so new here?" She guesses. "If me being new is that obvious..." She teases lightly.

"Dirtside -- so you were in the Navy before here? I wouldn't know much about that; before coming here I was a bail bondsperson, then a sheriff," She lets out a small, amused, laugh at his next words. "Good to know I'm not quite so awkward that I stick out like a sore thumb, though. If sometimes taking large sips of beer makes me easily remembered, I guess that's something,"

He smiles, then takes another sip of his drink before he responds.
"No, I'm not a Navy man. I'm a pilot, got me a fine little spaceship named Serenity back home. I miss her. I'm not used to so much land under my feet."

She gives him a curious look. "I wouldn't have guessed spaceflight. And there's all that gravity to get used to here on land, too. I'm sure it's quite a change,"
no subject
He toasts her idea with his glass, then shrugs.
"Got gravity on my boat, at least, so it's not as big a change. Still, I miss being out in the black. Good bit safer out there than it is here."
And that was saying something, because space had its own list of dangers.

"From what I've heard from people about this place so far, I can believe that. It's probably nice out in space too, at least you're up there with the planets and stars -- must be a great view. Looking up at the sky from the ground is still nice, but, to have front row seats? I'd take it,"

He looks confused for a moment, then his face clears.
"You must be from Earth-that-was. I'm a little ahead of your time. No NASA where I come from. We've branched out a bit more than that."
no subject
And now it's her turn to look confused. "Earth that was? Someone start World War three?"
