[ Gwaine has not been educated as to the fine art of wishing. This not only explains why he is not currently sitting atop a mountain of the most random collection of wished-for items since Spike the dragon grew several meters, but also why he is walking into the Lux and heading for the bar. He has no money on him and he is not used to drinking so much water so he is carefully eyeing the place. When he fails to spot anyone, he slides under and behind it. Stealing the first bottle he can find, he attempts to shuffle out without being seen, the bottle hidden against his chest. ]

Tell you what. I give you a glass -- you sit here and drink it, and you start asking for things when you need them.

[ He beams. Scrambling for a stool, he manages to sit on it. ]

[at least it got him off the stealing track. for now anyway]

What's your name?

Gwaine.

[ He is doing his best to wait patiently. Which translates into kicking his legs quickly enough to make the stool spasm. His upper body is draped on top of the bar, hands palm down on the surface. He draws figures with his fingers while he waits. ]

[and with that she places the beer on the counter in front of him -- it's the smallest glass she could find, but it's still a decent amount]

And this is between you and me, alright?

[and she reserves the right to cut you off if you get sloppy]

Okay! I won't tell anyone!

[ He straightens to pick it up and lift it to his mouth. He sets it down to blink at her. ]

Is there food?

[she laughs]

You come in here, try to steal my whiskey, get a free beer out of the deal and now you want dinner too?

[shakes her head]

Kids these days.

[however, giving a kid alcohol on an empty stomach is probably not the best plan.]

What do you like to eat?

[ He tries to suppress a grin, but he fails. He laughs, chin on the countertop. ]

Er...I like venison or rabbit with bread and honey. And lamb, but it is early still for lamb, huh. What kind of game is there here? Is there a river nearby? I haven't seen any fish or heron.

[pauses as she thinks this over]

We usually do beef, in terms of meet -- not rabbit or deer. But I think we have fish?

[impetuous]

Beef is good too.

[ He says it quickly in case his request had caused offense. He momentarily forgot not everyone has access to game. ]

Beef it is. How's a hamburger sound?

Hamburger?

[ What is putting meat between slices of bread? ]

You'll see. I'll be back in a second.

[it'll give him all his food groups. Or at least most of them.]

[ He waits as patiently as he can, which translates into fidgeting and kicking his feet back and forth. ]

[fidgeting and kicking are totally acceptable kid reactions. and not long after, Max returns with a plain hamburger and some french fries. She kept off too many of the toppings, because she wasn't sure what his stomach would be able to take, but she'll place it down in front of him.]

This is a hamburger.

[impetuous]

[ He lifts one of the buns, staring at the meat. ]

You put the meat in the bread?

[whatialways_do]

Yep. It's called a sandwich. You use the two pieces of the bread to hold the meat.

[impetuous]

Mm. [ Replacing the bun, he picks up the hamburger and takes a bite. His face brightens. ] Dis if good! [ He swallows. ] This is good!

[grins]

Thought you'd like it.

[impetuous]

[ He resumes eating with a happy noise. After a moment, he swallows. ]

Thank you!

[ With a grin, he digs in again. ]

[laughs a bit and nods]

You're welcome. If you need me, just shout, okay?

[ He nods, unable to speak from the mouthful of hamburger. ]

[small smile, and she'll wander off to deal with other customers]

[ When he's finished, he looks around for her. Not spotting her immediately, he debates about leaving the plate on the counter. After a moment's hesitation, he slips off his stool and heads for the door. ]

[Max spots him as he comes out of the kitchen]
