He'd thought of it on a whim, in the face of Yukiko's absence. A distraction for Nanako to help cheer her up, and something that, even if Souji wouldn't easily come out and say it, he could probably use as well. Especially considering he'd spent so much of Valentine's talking about acquiring a cat. If Yosuke's unimpressed behaviour was the only thing holding him back, he didn't mind getting on board.

Picking it out had been easy. The kitten had been easily the most affectionate of the bunch, and the most excitable, definitely something that would make an excellent distraction. And for Yosuke's own amusement, as it was perfectly colourless, just like their fearless leader.

More caisos than he reasonably wanted to spend on anything that wasn't a motorcycle later, he's pushing the door to their room open, little bundle of fur tucked in under his coat.

"Souji, you here?"

Nanako had been pretty quiet for the last week. Between Yukiko and Abel leaving, it seems like Paradisa always wanted to remind her that the people she cared about would always leave eventually. However, a shopping trip with Yosuke to look for an adorable kitten? Well, that was a wonderful distraction that quickly brightened her mood.

Brimming with excitement, Nanako enters the room right behind Yosuke, helping with the search by calling, "Big Bro?"

Though Souji told himself it was best Yukiko wasn't here anymore, he was still saddened by it. She may have been better off but it didn't keep the sour mood from dragging him down at the loss of a friend. He hadn't seen Kanji around in a bit either. He wondered if he and Yosuke were the only ones left of the Investigation Team.

Dozing in the room he shared with Nanako and Yosuke, he had woken up not that long ago when they entered. He sat up on the bed and greeted them with a small smile.

"Hey. Welcome back."

He makes sure to reflexively shut the door behind them, before sending a wide grin Souji's way.

"Little early to be hitting the hay, don't you think?" And he drops a careful hand onto Nanako's shoulder, nudging her a little bit ahead of him. It's definitely their surprise in equal measure.

She's about to nod in agreement... before she does notice that Souji looks tried. Was he sleeping? She wonders for a moment if this is a bad time to do the surprise.

"Are you tired?"

Souji scratched the back of his neck a little sheepishly. "No, I'm fine. I actually didn't mean to fall asleep."

Which was mostly the truth. He'd been lost in thought and then before he realized it he had dozed off.

He'd laugh at you bro, if this lethargic mood hadn't been hanging around for days. And a part of him is just glad, that the Souji has no intention of going back to sleep, because it was hard enough hiding a wriggling ball of fur under his coat thus far. Never mind trying to reign in the little thing a second time.

He moves to sit on the other side of the bed, kicking off his shoes as he goes. "Great! I'm not surprised you were bored without us, man." They are absolutely perfect, any way.

Satisfied that Big Bro wasn't tired, Nanako looks back up eagerly at Yosuke. "Can we tell him?"

She tries to ask the question under her breath, but Souji is probably able to hear her question. She would be more subtle... but being really excited about the surprise that you're about to pull off makes your ability to be secretive plummet.

Souji cocked his head toward Yosuke curiously. It hasn't gone entirely unnoticed that he's clutching something in his coat. The unnatural bulge in it is kind of obvious, anyway. And when he heard Nanako ask that, well... his curiosity really spiked.

"Tell me what?" he asked, glancing between the two.

"Yeah. Why don't you do it, Nanako-chan?"

Yosuke gives up on subtly, especially since Souji has made it pretty clear he's heard them. Besides, the gift itself was going to be more of a surprise than the fact that they'd gotten him something at all.

She looks up at Yosuke and then looks back at Souji, bouncing a bit on the balls of her feet!

"W-We got a kitten!" saying it out loud makes her giggle a bit, and she looks back at Yosuke, expecting him to dramatically reveal the cutie.

"You got a kitten?" he echoed.

His face pretty much lit up at those words. He loved feeding the stray cats in Inaba and now Yosuke and Nanako had brought one home? He was definitely excited.
