Three true things await discovery,

And the Moon is no dream—

Those who enter Dairine’s dream will find themselves on the dark side of the moon. Of course, unless they are well-versed in lunar surfaces, it’ll just look like grey, rocky terrain. Surprisingly, you can breathe just fine despite not having any protective suits. The air is chilly, but not the freezing cold that was normal in outer space.

Above you is a night sky unaltered by smog or atmosphere, the deep velvety darkness of space. Beautiful, isn’t it? However, those that look closely will begin to notice a patch of sky far darker than the rest. As you continue to watch, the darkness will spread out, blocking out stars and galaxies. Before long, whole sections of space appear to be swallowed up by a void of nothingness. Yet make no mistake, this darkness is not nothing. It stirs and heaves as if it were a living thing… or a bunch of little ones, like a giant mass of insects.

That darkness is alive. And somehow, you know it's not friendly.

The Lone Power

[You find yourself walking into what looks like a regular office. Behind the desk is a young businessman in a dark three-pieced suit. He is quite handsome with his red-gold hair and clean shaven face. The man glances up from his paperwork towards you before giving a welcoming smile.]

Well now, look who we have here. I wasn’t expecting visitors.

I was not expecting to visit. [She's on guard. It's never good when unfamiliar people know of you. But she's polite enough.]

I don't doubt that. That is the nature of this place after all... there are always plenty of surprises.

[His deep voice is warm and pleasant, as though he were talking to an old friend. It gives him an almost irresistible charm -- you might feel as though you could trust him with anything. Uh huh. Absolutely nothing to be suspicious about this.]

[Ironically, it's exactly that reassuring feeling that unnerves her. It reminds her too readily of Saruman.]

And yet you seem to know of me already.

[There's a reason for that. The man chuckles lightly.]

Indeed I do. Galadriel, the "Lady of Light." You have quite a reputation if I do say so myself.

You have me at a disadvantage. Might I ask your name?

[He gives a nonchalant shrug.]

I go by many names, souvenirs granted to me from my years of travelling. Some are... less kind than others.

I might say the same. But that is no answer.

Observant as ever, I see. [He leans back in his chair, smiling almost fondly. This one will be harder to trick than most, but the toughest cases end up being the most satisfying.

Ah... but which name shall It give.]

On Earth, I am known as "Lucifer," among other things. I shall assume you've heard of Earth by now, as it is home to our mutual acquaintance.

I have, yes. [A pause. A number of her friends in Paradisa have been Catholic priests. She's learned enough.] That name is not entirely unknown to me.

Do you? I suppose it is one of my more popular surnames.

Of course, you know me better as Morgoth.

[Her expression immediately shifts into something more hostile, the anger of youth, that which she's fought so hard to contain, finding its way back up to the surface.]

Do you think to endear yourself to me with that name? If you are who you claim, then you have stained the earth with the blood of my kinsmen.

[Galadriel's anger does not seem to phase the man (if you could even call him a man). In fact, for his part, he appeared downright bored with her accusations.]

I admit that fragment of myself was a bit more... aggressive than some. [He shakes his head, a perfectly forelonged expression on his face.] An unfortunate naming indeed. But Death was bound to happen, and as always, I must take my part in it.

[The Power looks back back at Galadriel and 'tsks' at her.]

Though really, my Lady, the hypocrisy of your words is unbefitting you. "The blood of your kin?" I dare say I needn't remind you that the same blood is on your hands as well as mine.

I wasn't expecting to visit anyone, sir. [Steve is wary. It isn't the first time someone recognized him. It's a given that may happen considering the movies, comics, or just people showing up from the future. Still this felt different.]

I'm sorry, but have we met?

Aaah, another unintentional guest. We seem to be having an influx these days...

Not officially. But I'm sure we will soon enough. [They always meet him eventually. Well... not all of them. Some get lucky, but those are rare cases. Not worth his effort.]

[The man look quite friendly despite being a stranger, giving Steve a charming smile. But something does seem slightly off.]

[Steve is the kind of guy to notice that. He can be polite until his suspicions amount to something.] What makes you say that, sir?

I meet most people eventually. Part of the business, you see.

[The man smiles patiently.]

Watching the proceedings of the Universe and occationally intervening, just as the rest of my kind do.

Excuse me? [A beat.] I don't mean to hammer you with questions, but what exactly are you?

I am one of the Powers that reside outside Time. One that has been here since the beginning.

[valuedstrength]

[Steve will just stare. Is this man crazy or is there really some power outside time...? He's siding with the first one.]

[wizard_redfive]

[Try all of the above. The man watches Steve calmly, still smiling.]

You look surprised.

[valuedstrength]

Well it's not every day someone tells me they're some kind of power. [He keeps his tone pleasant enough, but the disbelief is plain to see.]

The man shrugs.]

It's not every day We make ourselves known to mortals. But today is already an unusual day. [He looks out the window at an eerily familar cityscape.] ...Or night.
