Who: Natsu and Lucy
What: Lots and lots and lots of awkward.
When: After the event is over [ s-so backdated ]
Where: Lucy's room back at the castle
Rating: L for a Lucy, a Little Violence and a Lot OF Yelling.

[ Normally, Lucy's routine was to get up early, have a bath, meditate a little and meet Natsu for breakfast. By meet that was usually -walk out of the bathroom and find him there. Because he had been in the bed too.

Today however, she was sleeping a bit deeper, less willing to wake, feeling herself wrapped in a blanket of warm and safe aura. She didn't know what it was, she didn't care, she just snuggles closer to the warmth she felt, murmuring softly. Dun wanna wake uuuuup. ]

[ You're welcome darling <3 Er, that is. Ahem. When Natsu rolls off of her, Lucy scrambles off of the bed and (after tripping over her own feet on less than three times) steps back against the couch, pointing shakily at her sleepy friend. ]

Y... You have the NERVE to ask me that after you - you ...! What the HELL Natsu! Why were y.. what do you think you were doing you... you! PERVERT!

[ But Lucy, you were pretty snuggled up and comfortable with him there yourself. ]

[Her yelling only manages to make him more and more confused, until that changes to shock and annoyance. He bolts up into a sitting position suddenly]

Whaaaaaaaat? What're you saying?! I ain't Gray! [Because obviously he's the first person that comes to mind at the word pervert whoops sorry bro]

I didn't even do... anyth... ing...

[Finally, with all of the blood rushing to his head, the memories come flooding in and Natsu just stops for a moment, tilting his head and regarding Lucy oddly]

You're JOKING if you're going to say you don't remember that we ... we... [ She trails off with a bit of a squeak as she herself remembers again, and ... suddenly she can't look at Natsu. fj;a That doesn't help since he's looking at her a little... funny. She's not sure how to read that expression. ]

W.. what are ... Stop looking at me!

[The look he gives her then clearly shows that he remembers, and though she looks away he doesn't. He's just... reliving those days, especially yesterday, hold on a second his brain can't multitask like this right now]

Huh? What? [He frowns, crossing his arms] I ain't allowed to look at you? Jeez, what's with you? It wasn't that big a deal, I don't even get what happened. [And he means the whole memory change and all.

Except his cheeks are tinged pink and they feel warmer than they should and he just doesn't understand why. So... maybe it was more than... not a big deal]

[ Hfia;g ostop reliving the daaaaaaays. Especially yesterday hgagh. But it's ... what he says that gets her to look at him sharply, and it's almost... hurt. ]

Wasn't that big a...

[ Lucy why are you upset over that? Just because it ... he... She clenches her fists, looking away again. Jerk. But honestly Lucy didn't you tell yourself this before when Mira had suggested Natsu liked you? It would never work out! You're coworkers! He's your best friend for god's sakes. .... but she still feels angry, and she's not sure who or WHAT she's angry at. The castle for manipulating their lives, or Natsu for (seemingly) brushing it off so easily. ]

How can you just... BRUSH off something like that? [ She can't get angry at the castle. How do you get revenge against that? And it was unfair, but the only other target was Natsu. Though she quickly amends her question lest he think ... she was upset for other reasons. ]

This stupid castle messed with our memories! We.. [ No. STOP. Calm the blush down. Take a breath. ]

And NO, you CAN'T look at me. Not like... like that!

[ ... that what? ]

[The look stops him for a moment, because something in it makes him freeze and feel almost guilty. He doesn't know why though, can't put a name on the emotion he sees in her gaze]

That's exactly why I can! And am! Because whatever happened was just this stupid freaky castle, that wasn't really us. Or something, I don't know anymore! [Why doesn't she see it that way and why is she getting so upset about it? Lucy's reactions to this is certainly not helping him calm down or understand anything]

Like what?! I'm lookin' at you normally!

[Only he isn't, not really. His gaze can't help but drop to her lips for a split-second after remembering kissing her and it's just too freaking weird for his brain to continue thinking about so he just... doesn't anymore.

And instead glances away angrily, focusing on much easier emotions]

Ughhhhh, THIS IS HURTING MY HEAD.

Exactly right - none of it was real! But - [ She whips about again, pointing angrily. ]

That doesn't give you the right to - to -- [ Wait, what does he mean he doesn't know? Hgi;oag MOVE ON LUCY HE'S JUST BEING WEIRD AND FRUSTRATING. ]

If you think you're sleeping in my bed again after that you can forget it! AND T.. THAT IS NOT A NORMAL LOOK. [ She claps a hand over mouth, thinking it'll stop him from looking at her lips rather than... y'know...draw attention to it. She lowers her hand after a moment. ]

COMPLETELY fake, so don't think for a second you can try that again! You -- we almost... [ LUCY stop dwelling on the fact that you two came THAT close to ...well, probably making out actually. ]

Think about it! This stupid castle did that, next time it might ... we might be l.... llllllllllll............. [ Come on Lucy, you can say the word. Lovers. It's not taboo. . . . well it is when it's your best friend. Her face lights up again at the thought. fjak;glhaiga ]

[Natsu's head turns abruptly, jaw dropping]

WHAT? Why can't I still sleep with you?! [It's his turn to look a bit hurt at that, because then where's he going to sleep? Is she going to kick him out of her room because of this?]

We almost what? We might be what? Lucy, I don't get it! Stop being so confusing! [Through layers and layers of confusion he's trying to understand what would make her so upset, because he doesn't want them to be arguing or her to be as annoyed as she seems to be with him.

But, honestly, Natsu just isn't capable of it sometimes. Not when he already has so much about himself and what he did that he's trying to understand - or not think about, because he can't understand it]

Would you stop freakin' out already?! Just forget it ever happened!

Why can't you--

[ She wavers a bit - looks away. It's too easy to say yes to Natsu especially when he looks like that. And the rational part of her brain does know Natsu is struggling to understand - that this particular type of emotional response is beyond him, and has been ever since she knew him, but she has to lash out at SOMEONE. And it's unfair that that person is Natsu. But she doesn't feel like being fair. ]

You can't be serious. I woke up with you on... with you ... [ ERRRGH, flustered. She can't even SAY the words because they make her blush. And she hates that she liked it a lot because it's WEIRD and WRONG and he's her best FRIEND damnit. Just forget it ever happened. That ...even though it was /fake/ memories, it hurts because she'd been just... that happy. And he wanted her to just forget it.

Gray must be here, because the temperature suddenly drops in the room. Metaphorically. The look on her face is positively chilly. ]

Fine.

[ And she turns to walk away stiffly. If she were a cat, she'd be snubbing you. ]

That was just an accident! [Well, no, he distinctly remembers wanting to hold her in his arms and being very content to do that even just this morning, but still!]

W-Wha... Lucy! [He's scrambling out of the bed now, getting caught in the bed sheets and thump he lands unceremoniously on the ground.

But he hardly seems to notice, standing quickly afterward and trying to follow after her]

Hey, what'd I say? Don't be so mad at me! [Natsu's voice has grown quieter, though for him that's still louder than a normal person would be]

[ An accident. Okay fine, she'll buy it was an accident. That's understandable, after all it's not like Natsu would ever do something like that intentionally. Hell, it's not like... she /wanted/ him to. ]

What the hell is wrong with me. What am I even thinking?

[ Just... focus on something else. It figures it's easy for Natsu to forget everything, he's so dense. Why take it so personally? But she does. She doesn't even say anything to Natsu, still giving him the cold shoulder. Be strong Lucy, don't give in to that guy! ]

[He doesn't catch the words, but his first instinct is to be wary that she's still angry. An angry Lucy could be like Erza, and he really doesn't want that wrath directed at him, not one bit]

Oi... Lucy? [He comes up behind her, peering from the left side and then the right side, trying to see her face]

I dunno what to say or do, okay? I just don't want you to be mad at me. [Should he apologize? Should he... what? This isn't like Gray where he can just start a brawl and get over any fight they may have had. This is totally different territory]

[ She tenses from head to toe. After having memories where they were so close, she was a wee bit hypersensitive to his presence. Each time he leans, she turns in the opposite direction, not wanting him to see her face.

She hated being angry with him. Even now the urge to just... lean back and forgive everything he ever did was strong, but it just reminded her... She swallows back a lump in her throat, trying to keep a bit of a quiver out of her voice. Stop...that. Just... go away, go away go away or else... ]

Just go away, Natsu.

[ She just... couldn't. She couldn't be near him, not right now. Not when she was trembling a little, fighting the urge to turn hug him, reassure him that everything was okay and it wasn't. She... needed to get her head back to where it's supposed to be, and not where it was. ]

["Go away..."

The words echo in his head a few times, each time making more of what felt like an actual wound inside him. Sure, she'd told him to go away and leave her alone before, but never... never like this. Never so seriously, as if she really doesn't want him around at all.

Mostly what he wants to do, what he's so tempted to do because it's his nature, is to stomp his foot. Cross his arms and shake his head. Deny the request, the order, whatever. No way is he leaving when she's upset! However... it isn't so easy to do, suddenly, as the words echo once more.

It hurts. But if it's for the best, if she'll get better and stop being so upset and smile again...

Natsu straightens up, and tries to keep his voice light]

Alright. If that's what you want, I ain't gonna keep bothering you.

[And he forces himself to turn around, heading toward the door]

[ She was in fact, expecting him to refuse. To stomp his foot to be juvenile to be Natsu.

Even though she told him to go away, she wanted to take the words back. She wanted to say she didn't mean it, that she was just upset and confused, and... and she was being STUPID. But she doesn't say any of those things. She doesn't move, doesn't even so much as breathe because it felt like she had clutched her heart and was squeezing it, wondering why it wasn't popping.

What are you doing Lucy?... he's your best friend. It ... it wasn't his fault. Apologize already! Say something! ]

...

[ Continued silence, though tears nearly prick her eyes at the response. It... bothered him that little? They... were still friends weren't they? He could just walk away? .... ....because she told him to go. Lucy, stop him.

She hears him turn and walk towards the door, and she turns slowly, but she can't speak. It's too hard to see him walk away. Natsu ... I'm sorry. Please don't go. How hard was it to say that? Just... say his name. Even that would be enough.

But she can't. The words won't come. ]

[It's so hard to fight that instinct, to want to just yell and act like a child because it's easier, but he doesn't think it's the same for Lucy, and so he stops himself. She'll get back to being her normal self on her own, he tries to convince himself.

He slows once he's in the doorway, coming to a halt. It takes a few moments - and in that time one hand rises to touch the chain and pendant around his neck - but he turns toward her again eventually, hand still raised.

Natsu's gaze is lowered but comes up when he speaks]

Hope you feel better soon, Luce. I'll be around when you... when... [He isn't entirely sure what to say, and so he trails off, and shrugs, but the expression on his face, visible to her before he turns away yet again, is confused. Frustrated.

Pained.

And then he turns that final time and leaves the room]
