Although it was something of a last minute production, South was eager for the chance to rub in York's age a little. She'd felt at such a disadvantage being the baby of her little group, and once the opportunity presented itself for a little mischief she couldn't ignore it.

It had taken some organization and a call out to York's friends, but people who knew him (and even some who didn't) were willing to pitch in and help out.

Thus, South had put up a bunch of decorations, in addition to whatever some of the others brought in. She even had a special hat for the party Boy. Five had someone making a cake, Aradia was helping put up decorations, Reno was in charge of alcohol ... South was quite pleased with herself.

[Carolina chuckles.] Not one to South, at least.

[She rummages around in her pockets for a couple moments before coming up empty. Of all the days to be suddenly forgetful.] Your present's upstairs.

[Carolina raises a slightly concerned eyebrow at him.]

And this is called having expectations, York. [Though, honestly, she's not surprised he's never mentioned his birthday or his age to anyone. She didn't either.] Your life is worth celebrating.

[It's one thing she's gleaned from her time at the Castle. To take each day by the neck and shake it for all it's worth.]

Okay, no, he really doesn't usually expect anything. There's less disappointment that way. So instead he just pulls her in for a fierce hug.]

[Carolina's not a big one for PDA, even touching in public, so she keeps her end of the hug short, but a solid return of the gesture.]

[Carolina raises an eyebrow at York, assuming wishful thinking on his part until she actually glances over at the seeing eye chart. Oh.]

[Carolina grins just slightly.] Real question is do you want to test your eyes on the real things or the seeing eye chart?

I think you might already know the answer to that. But I should probably at least stay at the party a little while, and the charts are already here, so.

[Carolina's grin widens into a smirk as she nods.] Your guests will appreciate that.

I said your birthday present's upstairs. [Said matter-of-factually. What all the present entails, though, is a surprise.]

[Carolina keeps right on grinning.] Think that's for you, York.

Hey, I can't eat the whole cake. Gotta have some help from the peanut gallery.

The peanut gallery's over there. [Carolina motions with her head toward South. Your awesome girlfriend is standing here.]

Good. I heard the Doctor got someone to make it, so it should be pretty awesome.
