UNSC + SOLDIERs meet-and-greet

Who: UNSC (NOBLEs Two and, Six; Freelancers Washington, South, York, and Carolina; Lance Corporal Dante/Rookie) + SOLDIERs (Zack + Angeal) + Hard Hunter [a yet unnamed alliance/coalition]
What: Meet-and-greet/mingle/badassery.
When: Mondayish evening
Where: The Hangar!
Rating: Maybe PG-13

[Honestly, Carolina's a little nervous about everyone being under the same roof for a meet-and-greet. Not because of any real fear of fighting or danger, but more that it's been a while since she's had this many strong-willed people in the same room. Sure, there's the teleporter to the Danger Room on one side of the garage and an assortment of vehicles, but she expects most of the action to happen in the kitchen where she expects they'll spend most of their time. She'd sent out brief notifications to all interested parties earlier in the day, so hopefully everyone would come and be ready to chat about plans for this potential alliance.]

(ooc: This is mostly a mingle post! I'll put up a couple different areas in the hangar and please tag anyone/everyone! ICly, everyone's meant to meet everyone. Backtagging is very welcome but you can also just leave a comment saying what your character would agree to/wouldn't if it gets too busy/full!)

[Hello up there and what is that accent even. It's okay, give him a sec and whoever-this-is will get a smile and a one-shouldered shrug.]

Depends on what you want to ask about, really. She seems like she's got a good head for command, and I can respect that. When she asked for help on that expedition, I gave it.

She has her moments. [Kat nods in return. She wasn't entirely in love with the Freelancer program as a whole, but Carolina had been one of the more-reliable ones, even if she and Kat still butted heads from time to time.]

What did you do during the expedition?

[She reaches down to make a minor adjustment to her right arm, the entirity of which is a robotic prothesis.]

We all probably do. [Stubborn? Maybe just a bit, but what soldier isn't a little stubborn, really?]

Guard shifts, watches, whatever you want to call it. A sword where muscle was needed. What she was looking to accomplish there wasn't that far off anything I'd have done anyway.

[OKAY HELLO Kat you have caught someone's attention. Automatons, robots, that sort of thing aren't unheard of in Midgar, but Zack's never seen a limb replaced in such a fashion before. It's probably pretty obvious that he's curious.]

Jack of all trades, then. That could be handy. You ever use firearms before? They're a little bit more useful than a blade.

[She sees him noticing it, and shifts slightly so he can get a better look.] What sort of technology do they have in your world?

Handguns up to sniper rifles, yeah. [There's a bit of a laugh though, because SOLDIER is... well, SOLDIER.] They're too slow though. A sword's easier when you can block faster than someone can shoot.

[Well, as long as she's offering he certainly will look! It reminds him of something out of the labs really, especially up close like this. Zack might not be the most technical of guys himself, but he knows enough to appreciate that it's a fine piece of engineering.]

Truth be told, just about everything in this garage looks like it could've come out of one of our own facilities. I mean, I'm sure there's got to be different levels of technology, and I don't see anything that resembles what Materia is to us, but maybe we're not too far off, theory-wise.

Just as long as whatever is shooting you doesn't break the sword.

[Kat's anything but shy about her arm, unless it comes to the actually story about how she lost it.] Materia? And what's that?

Hasn't yet. [Who even knows what swords are made out of in this canon, I mean really.]

[Zack is very much interested, but he's certainly not going to ask why she has a prosthetic. Those stories are usually a little too personal, especially for sharing with someone you'd just met, and Zack's not that insensitive. No, he'll admire it without really asking about it, and hopefully everyone wins.]

It's crystallized Mako, which is a substance from my world; I haven't really heard of any place that has an equivalent. I guess you could describe its effects as magic, for lack of a better word. Like, if you have a Thunder materia, you can cast lightning at a target. Useful, but you've gotta know how to use it.

Lucky you. [Hopefully it can withstand super-heated plasma, Kat's thinking.]

[And everyone wins indeed!]

You're almost talking about it like it's a tangible object? Is this magic that anyone can utilize?

Mmm. [WHO EVEN KNOWS I mean clearly they were totally thinking of realism when they created this canon, right?]

[And Zack? Hey Zack, look at the lady when she's talking to you, there's a good boy.]

It is; Materia usually crystallizes into a spherical shape. I'm not enough of a scientist to explain why, though. [There's a pause while he thinks.] You know, I don't know. I mean, there were guys back home who weren't good with it, but the potential was there. I don't know about people not from my world.
