[After a week of being stuck here and exploring the city, Giotto decided it was time to explore the castle itself. This place was actually quite large, and if he was going to be living here then he should explore it thoroughly. It always helped to be prepared, no matter what the situation, and from he's heard, this castle liked to do things to its residents on a regular basis. If he was going to keep with his promise and foil the castle at every turn, he needed to know what he had to work with. Knowing the enemy, one could say, because it was the building itself.

So today only, you'll find him wandering the halls and in public areas casually, almost lazily, though he's really inspecting them and cementing the layout of this place into his head. Come bother him on his wonderful endeavor.]

Oh, you could not imagine. Sometimes I think he just shows up to meetings to tell us something we don't know and then leave dramatically. [He shakes his head.] Lampo...well, he's a bit spoiled. His father's a wealthy land owner, and he's so used to getting what he wants. I'm not sure what I did to ensure his loyalty, but he will never turn me down if I ask him to do something.

And Daemon... [He gives a small, sad smile, staring at his pocket watch.] He was a noble who got tired of the nobility looking down on everyone and ignoring their suffering and wanted to change that. He believed in me so much. And I... I let him down, in the end. I couldn't be what he wanted me to be. And it hurt us all, in the end.

[And without fail, there was Giotto once more, taking all the blame. It was impossible to tell if he was deserving of it without knowing what had really happened, but Mufasa hardly hoped to get that much information out of him. Just what was it that he did that had laid such a terrible burden on his shoulders?

He remains quiet, giving Giotto the choice to elaborate or continue on.]

[He shuts his watch now with an audible click in the empty silence of the library and gives him a smile, hiding everything behind that.] And that's my family.

[Mufasa lets a silence drop between them for a bit before shifting to lay on his side.]

Mm... it is refreshing to hear about someone who cares for their family as much as you do, Giotto.

Is it? I would think everybody would care about their family...

[y e a h mufasa wouldn't be here if that was the case.]

Most do. But few bring their own up as often as you do. And when you spoke to me about each of them, there was a quality to your voice, and a look to your eyes... It almost seemed as though you were nearly overcome by pride and compassion. And even though one of them has hurt the rest of you, you consider him family just as much as the others. In fact, you are so generous as to shift the blame to yourself, rather than your family.

Now that is true love.

[Giotto's not entirely sure what to do with that pronouncement, because he's never had someone put it that bluntly or honestly before. He always knew he was the sky to his family, the one that tied them together. But he'd never thought about it the other way before. He lowers his head so Mufasa can't see the shining in his eyes and strokes the front of his pocket watch with a wistful smile on his face and murmurs, mostly to himself.]

The sky unites everything, but its just an empty sky without its components.

[The sky? What an interesting metaphor.]

They are as lucky to have you, as you are to have them.

[That's because it's not actually a metaphor.]

I know. [A soft smile.] Though sometimes I wonder exactly how lucky.

Perhaps more than even you are aware.

Perhaps. [He sits up and puts away his pocket watch carefully.]

[He chuckles gently.] You are too passionate a person to keep themselves so reserved all the time, Giotto. You should learn to loosen up.

And perhaps that is the problem to begin with. [He is too passionate.]

I should think not; great things can be accomplished, with such passion.

And passion can also accomplish terrible things.

Do you think you have done terrible things, Giotto?

...Perhaps. [He can't tell anymore, and that's what terrifies him.]

I cannot help you when I do not know what you have done. But, should you ever want a second opinion... I am all ears. [That's the closest he'll get to asking Giotto 'wtf happened?']

And that shall never happen. [He stands up with all the finality of that, pushing his chair back in.] I wouldn't wish for you to think badly of me.

[Mufasa watches him prepare to leave, the smile on his face a bit sad, now.]

None-the-less... my offer shall remain open.

And I thank you for it, truly. [And with that, he walks away, back through the stacks and out of the library.]
