( open ) First Night of Hanukkah

[The shop floor has been cleared, tables set. A hanukiah stands in the middle of the table. At sundown, a blessing is read. Afterwards, Violet starts taking off the lids to the dishes. There are a ton of latkes as well as other fried breads and Jewish pastries. Of course there is roasts and fish, and Violet tried her hand at several different dishes.]

ooc: so I am not Jewish and just spent a long time reading about Hanukkah. If I screwed something up, I am so sorry.

Also feel free to assume there are nutcrackers around. Treat this like a party post.

[As promised, Hellboy arrives with a plate full of potato knishes. Probably he should have warned Violet ahead of time about his appearance, but how does one exactly break the 'I'm actually seven feet tall and bright red' news smoothly?

He spends a second glancing around, then goes to place the plate down with the others.]

Ever been to Comic Con?

I don't know; I don't really read the things. That's kind of self-absorbed. [HE'S JOKING though.]

[Handshakes are Hellboy's least favorite part of meeting new people, but he is nothing if not adaptive. He holds out his massive stonelike right hand, extending a finger for her to grasp in lieu of a proper handshake.]

Hi. I'm Hellboy. This is a really nice setup you have here.

[She shakes his hand eagerly.]

Oh! It's a pleasure to meet you in person.

[The corner of his mouth twitches in a smile.]

You too. How'd the cooking go?

I didn't burn anything. [She jokes mildly, gesturing to the table filled with food.]

I think I'd count that as a success.

Hopefully I'm not the only one who finds it tasty though.

I'm sure everything's great. [He's going to grab a plate and start taking some food, because food is great.]

I'm not entirely certain, given that I am unfamiliar with most of Violet's guests and their tastes. They do look quite palatable, however, and you, sir, are extremely intimidating..

I know. I tried wearing suits once to look more genial, but it just looked kind of dumb.

[Hellboy does this a lot, too. Casually downplaying his monstrous appearance with jokes...]

Perhaps you simply hadn't the right tailor....? [he's slowly getting the impression this large, red gentleman(?) isn't going to hurt him. so, onward with polite conversation... hopefully he won't end up running for his life]

[He can't promise there won't be running for his life involved, but he won't be the instigator! Stuff just tends to follow him around that involves running ...]

It's hard to find a tailor who knows how to deal with different-sized sleeves.

[thoughtfully:] Were we still in my own world, I could have made one or two recommendations. There are tailors in a seafaring town near where I apprenticed who are quite adept at such alterations.

[That gets a smile, though the way Hellboy smiles is more of an unnerving grimace. His lips peel back to expose his teeth, head tilting slightly to the side.]
