What: Borgia-Mills Saturnalia party, basically, that party!

The garlands and wreaths of leaves decorating the ballroom sure look similar. Almost Christmas trees. Pagan origins for an otherwise religious holiday. This occasion has no purpose, however, aside from merriment, freedom and lots and lots of eating!

The cooks Henry gathered are welcome to place their creations on a long table set to one side, while most of the ballroom is left clear for dancing of any form. Most of the sofas have been pushed against the walls as refuge for tired feet. The wine flows freely, with uncountable goblets here and there!

Oh, one more thing, beware the nutcrackers.

Oh, hello, there's a new face. Lucrezia sidles to stand beside him, her mask held inches over her face though he would be able to see her if he only turned.

"Are we entertained?"

He looks at her out of the corner of his eye, amused. She was the hostess of the party, was she not?

"You could say we are."

[heloise]

She is indeed, and being the best hostess, she will be nabbing a glass of wine from a circling ghost to offer him a toast.

"To joy."

[is_mafia]

He returns the toast with a smile.

"And to an excellent hostess and party."

Lucrezia takes a generous sip of wine. "Hostess and little host. Have you met Henry?"

[is_mafia]

Giotto only takes a small sip, because he knows how much it goes to his head. "No, I have not, but you mentioned him in your announcement. Is he around?"

[heloise]

Wine is practically mother's milk to her! And not cut with water, not tonight. Lucrezia peers about the room to find him. "You must have luckily escaped his most enthusiastic welcome. He was stationed at the entrance as far as I knew."

[is_mafia]

He can tell. But he's not going to lose his head, not tonight, and especially not with those nutcrackers still around. "I must have, then. I will have to look for him. But what about you? Does our hostess have a name?"

[heloise]

"She does indeed. It is Borgia," she takes a sip of wine as if she has all the time in the world to say the rest. "Though I would ask you to call me Lucrezia as not to intimidate."

[is_mafia]

Too bad Giotto doesn't know his Italian history as well as he should, or he might recognize her. He'd never really bothered with it. "Lucrezia, then. I know that feeling well, to intimidate people by your name." He gave her a quirky, small smile. "I am Giotto."

"Giotto," she makes a point of pronouncing it exactly. She figures he isn't accorded that honor too often. "Why do they fear your name, Giotto?"

[is_mafia]

Not very often at all, not here. Still, he is going to dodge that question, as he doesn't want to answer it. "And I could ask you the same thing. Why do they fear your name, Lucrezia Borgia?"

[heloise]

She hums thoughtfully. "If I told you, you would fear me. Would that be to my advantage?"

[is_mafia]

"And how do you know that I would fear you? Perhaps I wouldn't." He pauses. Then again... "Or perhaps we should both just keep our secrets."

[heloise]

Lucrezia delays her answer by taking another sip of wine and savoring it. "Yes. Did wise men not say it is the unknown we fear the most?"

[is_mafia]

He points out, "Wise men also say that what we do not know cannot hurt us."

[heloise]

"Those who say so are not wise," or they are men. But she realizes she sounds more curt than intended, than she should, so she turns with a smile. "Keep your secrets, Giotto, and I will do the same with mine."

[is_mafia]

He smiles at her, apologetically. "Perhaps it is for the best. At the very least, not to talk of it here." That does not mean he will or won't, but it is open-ended. If you persist in taking to him, then perhaps.

[heloise]

Lucrezia returns it with a mischievous one, before she curtsies to take her exit. "Giotto."

He gives her a bow in return for her curtsy. "Lucrezia."
