Lastlook - Dead Zone Arrival

[After the hold up from Wonderland and someone bedazzling some of the horses, the expedition group were finally on their way. Using the transporter from one of the outposts, making it to the Dead Zone was rather easy once they got underway. Once-ler had even been nice enough to loan his caravan for the trip- and the stables provided horses for anyone willing to take one]

[Upon reaching it or not far into it- the travelers might notice one thing as they get used to being depowered or having no technology. The frigid paradisa winter just doesn't seem to be following. It's not nearly as cold out here and the snow itself only seems to continue for awhile before tapering off- past the border it seems like the Dead Zone appears exactly during previous visits]

[Pretty weird huh? Either way, feel free to use this post to get used to the Dead Zone, notice the change in climate, whine about not being there yet- whatever]

[ He thinks about that. It's not easy with this antlers considering the multiple prongs, but if they put it on the ground he might be able to tap it with his hooves. He had the same level of control with them as he did with his own legs. So he gives a decisive nod at that. ]

[She grins]

Okay! This is progress! [No, really, she's legitimately excited about this. We got a plan, man.]

Okay. Okay. So all I have to do is write out some pages with letters and common words so you can point at them. It's time consuming but it'll help us in the long run, don't you think?

[staggeringego]

[ He nods his head eagerly. Dang he wishes he came to her some time before now! It's a really simple solution to his problem and he could kick himself for not coming up with it himself. He could just carry a little chart around with him in deer form and whenever he wanted to say something to someone pull that out and have at least a short conversation with them. ]

[kungfuwitch]

[This is what you get for not coming to the castle's advice columnist, James. tsk tsk.

She pulls out her journal and starts tearing out pages]

This should do for now until we can make you something more permanent for the next time. [She pulls out a pen and starts writing letters and numbers on the pages, large enough so he'd be able to point at them one at a time. On other pages she writes common words like THE, AND, THERE, WHAT, HOW, WHO, WHY, FOOD etc. And, of course, his own name.]

[ He's already ashamed of himself and he'll make sure to never make that mistake again! She's his first choice on these matters from this point on always. He watches her, neck stretched out so he can watch everything she's writing down.

Man, this is gonna save him so much time with charades. Sure he can still do the yes or no questions the old fashion way, but now he'll be able to have full on conversations! Who would have guessed? ]

[it takes her a few minutes to write everything out but she soon has a few sheets of paper with letters and words covering them]

There! It's not pretty but it'll do for now. I don't really have a spare bag with me but I can hang onto them while we're out here if you'd like. Unless someone else has something you could use to carry them around in, of course. When we get back we should get together and we can figure out a more permanent solution for when you go out here. Something that you could bring with you and have people just spread out so you can talk to them.

[She's grinning, really. She loves helping people like this. She's lost one of her senses before so she can only imagine what an inconvenience it might be to not be able to talk to people at all.]

[ James nods his head along with a lot of what she's saying. All of it sounds good to him, though he didn't exactly bring a bag himself to carry around the map sadly so he lowers his head and nudges her hand with his nose hoping she understands that means he wants her to keep it.

That or spread the map out and he'll just tell her that way. ]

[She chuckles and tries to resist the urge to pet his nose, remembering just in time that he's a PERSON and that might be a little awkward when he's back to his normal self.]

Is that your way of asking me to hold onto this for you?

[ He's had people do it before. Heck, he's got a friend that seems more than okay with the attention he gets in animal form. It's just one of those things you learn to live with as when you've got this ability.

Admittedly though not many people approached a full grown stag they randomly happened across.

He nods his head at her question though just to make sure that's clear. ]

[She grins, nodding back]

You've got it. I'll just keep these and if you need to talk to anyone just come find me, okay? I'll try to stay close.

[ He nods again. He'll definitely be bothering her again before this trip is up. Now that he's got a real way to talk to people he won't be going back to just awkward nods and foot stamps to communicate. ]
