Lastlook - Dead Zone Arrival

[After the hold up from Wonderland and someone bedazzling some of the horses, the expedition group were finally on their way. Using the transporter from one of the outposts, making it to the Dead Zone was rather easy once they got underway. Once-ler had even been nice enough to loan his caravan for the trip- and the stables provided horses for anyone willing to take one]

[Upon reaching it or not far into it- the travelers might notice one thing as they get used to being depowered or having no technology. The frigid paradisa winter just doesn't seem to be following. It's not nearly as cold out here and the snow itself only seems to continue for awhile before tapering off- past the border it seems like the Dead Zone appears exactly during previous visits]

[Pretty weird huh? Either way, feel free to use this post to get used to the Dead Zone, notice the change in climate, whine about not being there yet- whatever]

[well, this girl is certainly happy about the warmer temperatures once they get a little further in! she's pulling her scarf off and stuffing it into her bag, looking around with a bit of a smile]

[there's a somewhat portly gentleman looking at her in bewilderment as he's struggling out of a heavy overcoat]

Madam, while I agree the weather is far more suited to extensive outdoor travel, I hardly packed for a warmer climate.

You didn't pack layers?

[Naga walks over, Korra on her back as usual.]

You don't like the warmer temperatures?

[Aradia has been along on the trip this whole time, of course. Unfortunately, she wore a huge down coat and looks rather concerned as she takes it off.]

And here I thought the biome edges in video games were unrealistic. It's almost like a solid line.

[Despite not thinking she'd be able to make it, Raine was relieved to hear that the departure date had been moved down a bit, and she'd grabbed her ever-ready journey bag and taken the mongoose-dragon out of the stables for a ride. She has it outfitted with a rather silly-looking giant parka, but silly or not it seems to be helping with the cold.

Nearing the border, she's pleased to see the snow taper off a bit in the distance.]

How interesting. It's a bit like when we visited Paradisa Town - the Live Zone was all a swamp, but beyond it was only a thigh-deep lake that stretched on for miles.

[he looks over at the Professor. He's glad she could make it, since hey she tends to be the most knowledgeful and wise]

Ah- that's right! I had forgotten about that.

I suppose it makes sense that the weather patterns are reliant on the castle's magic.

[And she's likewise pleased to have Allen along. He's very experneiced, and he may remember some details that slip her own mind.]

Yes, that's what I was thinking as well. You remember when there was no weather to think of at all?

We aren't going near that lake at all, are we? [he looks vaguely distressed]

I neglected to pack wading boots.

Oh no, of course not. That was more in the northeast. Though we will be going to a river, of course - are you good with boats?

[Korra glances over from Naga's back and blinks.]

Paradisa Town?

[It's not quite a Beartic, but that is what Naga reminds her of, though perhaps with a more doglike gait. Raine's seen Naga before but remains professionally curious about her abilities.]

A village to the northeast of the castle in the Dead Zone. It was the subject of a world change once - and, more importantly, evidence that it was not the world that was changing at all, merely our location within it.

[It was... sort of incredibly awkward to just ride out to the Dead Zone the day after Sollux got back, after not having seen him for a year. Sure, she'll still be able to bother him via journal, but...

... for now she shakes off the thought and squints through her sunglasses at the distance.]

That's out east, right? I don't remember reading anything about a lake.

[ It's not like James would have really had any problems with the colder weather if it had been a little chiller, but it's easier to walk without all the snow getting in his way so he's not exactly complaining about it.

Or much of anything, since it's not like anyone would be able to understand his complaints at the moment as it is.

If anyone had wondered why James hadn't really bothered to show up with a bag at all when he joined up with the group the question should be answered now that he's just crossed over that invisible border line and a full grown stag is warily stepping forward before glancing over it's shoulder back to where the climate is clearly colder just a few feet away. ]

[Phoebe's eyes widen when she sees this.]

[Phoebe is certainly grateful for the newfound warm weather. Though she's still shivering as she takes off her coat. No matter how often she goes to the Dead Zone she'll never get used to the feeling of losing her powers. It might have happened at home but it was never quite like this. The magic didn't go anywhere it just... Wasn't there.

She pauses just over the boundary, closing her eyes and taking a slow breath as she tries to center herself before the journey.]

[And he takes notice. While it is a big change for Allen, at this point he's lost his powers so many times he barely even notices the loss anymore]

Phoebe?

Are you all right?

... [when Lemony sees her stop, he frowns and moves to her side, since she looks faint. if no one were there to catch her, he'd imagine her husband would be quite displeased]

Mrs. Halliwell?!

[Katniss's frown deepened as the climate turned from rigid and freezing to ... well. Almost mild. But they couldn't have been that far from the castle. Odd. This whole place was odd. She sighed as she reigned in her horse, moving forward ahead of the group to scout again. Breathing deeply, looking around.]
