Let it grow, let it grow

Who: Martel and you!
What: Planting flowers in the garden.
When: Today!
Where: Outside in the garden
Rating: ...T, just to be safe?

Martel was out in the garden on her down time, and for once she wasn't playing her panpipes. No, she had decided the garden needed some more flowers. And not just any flowers. The fandalia flowers she had gotten from home for Christmas had flourished in her room, and were growing out of their large pot. So Martel had taken it upon her to take a good portion of them out to the courtyard and into the garden. She intended to plant them by the truffula tree, and hopefully they would grow around it into a field of white fandalia flowers. She had also brought her Oddish out, who was currently pretending to be a plant in the corner. Every so often it moved and made a noise, but otherwise it stood silent, soaking up the rays of the sun.

She had just dug a small hole, and was placing a few of the flowers into the hole, covering it up with dirt. Then she stood up, looking around and spoke mostly to herself:

"I suppose I can spread them out a bit, to make sure they do grow."

"Oh, you can borrow my copy, if you wish! I'm almost through with it." He smiles, tucking it back away under his arm. "I also highly recommend Walden, by Thoreau, if you've not read it yet. Most from my world regard it as a classic piece of literature in terms of detailing man's essential connection with nature."
theabjectauthor: (I read something distressing.)

"Oh, they most assuredly do. While they still maintain a somewhat passing and haphazard respect for the Dewey Decimal system, the placement of the sections does change from day to day. It makes me quite glad that I enjoy spending time in libraries to begin with, as some mornings it takes me hours to properly return the books I had borrowed in previous days."
theabjectauthor: (I dropped it and now it is lost forever.)

"It makes me quite thankful we do not have a proper librarian, despite the fact that all libraries should," Lemony admits, looking rather guilty about it.

"One can only imagine how much strain such constant changes and rearrangements would put upon them."
theabjectauthor: (I am knowledgeable)

oh Granny Martel no no why you suggest this

He watches her work, then stoops to take up the watering can so that she can use it if she needs it. "You know, I had not considered that. I may need to start making note of the location of the sections each morning in my commonplace notebook..."

"Forever? Hardly, it would only be a matter of a few hours ... but you're right. Many hands do make light work, as the colloquialism goes. Perhaps there are some members of the V.F.D who would be willing to help me."

"Indeed." He steps back to give her room to work - and, amusingly enough, to be her own extra pair of eyes, quietly pointing out a spot she missed in the watering.

"Do you have any plans for the afternoon, once you've finished your gardening?"
theabjectauthor: (I enjoy a good show.)

"Certainly nothing specific," he admitted, "but it has been quite a while since we last spoke privately. I thought perhaps we might bring each other up to date on our respective current events."

"Very well...." He pauses, taking a moment to enjoy the garden around them. "Will you require time to go and freshen up after your gardening?"

"I wouldn't dare presume to put you in such an awkward position," he replies, vaguely horrified at the thought of possessing such terrible manners. Inwardly, he dreads the day the castle inflicts such behavior on him involuntarily - he's seen the changes it makes to other people, and knows it's quite likely and rather inevitable. It doesn't do to dwell on it before it's even happened, though, and he quickly pushes it to the back of his mind.

"How much time would you like to prepare? I'll leave it to you to decide when we meet."

With a polite nod, he smiled and tipped his hat. "Then I will wait patiently in the lobby, and see you shortly.". He had no trouble waiting however long she might need to finish before going to clean up... Watching passersby was a favorite pastime, and he still had his book, after all.
