And the words are all escaping
Who: Cass and YOU
What: Patrolling to make sure people don't do stupid things
When: Tuesday
Where: The city, the castle some too
Rating: A for ANNOYED
[She hates this from the second it starts. The journal explodes with things she can't read and she's locked in silence, no words come out when she tries to talk.
She spent seventeen years unable to speak and now having that thrust back onto her is maddening. In the past year she'd gotten herself to a broken kind of speech, she still mixed up words and struggled to get her meanings across, but at least it was something.
Now the nothing is deafening and she doesn't know how to make things go back to normal. What she does know is that when people get scared, they get stupid. They get violent because they don't know any better, but what is a superhero for if not to protect them, even if it's from themselves?]
[The City]
[During the daytime she moves among the people of the city like one of them, dressed in civilian clothes so she won't cause more panic, more worry. She makes rounds, reading the body language of everyone she sees for any signs of fear turning to anger and then violence. When she can, she distracts them with misdirection, separates them from the things causing them to become upset.
Other times, she shoves people into fountains to make them cool down when she sees they're about to attack some stranger for no reason. Whatever works.
When night falls, she patrols the rooftops in her Batsuit and is not quite as polite when she has to break up fights. If it calls for it, she won't be shy about breaking fingers or arms, knocking people out completely. A little violence to save lives is worth it and anyway, better a broken bone than anyone getting themselves killed.]
[The Castle]
[She spends less time in the castle because she trusts these people to police themselves, to keep calm in the face of whatever it is going on here. They've seen weird stuff before, they should know how to cope without causing problems. She also trusts them to not freak out over Batgirl roaming the halls and surveying the more active parts of the castle from a perch high above them.
Because that's not weird at all, right? Right.]

How the heck was he supposed to carry on with his usual witty banter when he couldn't speak? It completely took all the fun out of patrolling. He's resorted to writing out his quips on a whiteboard strung around his neck, and holding it up.
By the the time night fell he was highly annoyed and spoiling for some nice misplaced aggression. Where was the Box Ghost when you needed him? When he spots the girl in the suit on the roof beneath him he drops down to land in front of her.
And holds up his whiteboard.]
Nice suit.

Still, seeing Cass brings a smile to his face, and he jogs over, offering her a small wave. He's been worried about it, and it's likely showing in his body language]

When he gets to her, she lifts up onto her tiptoes so she can hug him, trying to show that she's glad he's safe with her own body language even if he can't read it.]

She's only mildly surprised when she spots Batgirl. But it's a nice sort of surprised, the kind where you see something that isn't totally alien compared to what you were expecting. This is a Batgirl she knows.
"Batgirl! Fancy meeting you here." Was she going to talk this time? Maybe?
no subject
But it isn't her. Those few seconds of excitement only come across in Cass leaning forward a little, her hand lifting like she wants to grab onto Linda's cape and drag her back to her apartment for Stephanie to hug. It's not her.
Paradisa really sucks lately. And this woman knows her, but Cass has never seen her before now. What is even going on? She can't exactly ask that, so she just waves instead. Hi Supergirl?
no subject
"Hi to you too. Nice night?"

But the distinction between vigilantes and superheroes gets kind of erased in Paradisa. There is no red tape to make such a thing as SPHINX necessary. Besides, he's like the only one here. It's not much of a vigilante group if you're the only guy in it.
Still, he's got his outfit on, patrolling the roofs with his crossbow in hand. People are gonna get dumb, something stupid is gonna happen, and he wants to be prepared for it.]

She doesn't recognize him, though. Not from her world, maybe? It doesn't really matter, they're out here for the same thing and two people are better than one. She stalks after him a few blocks, just to see what he'll do.]
no subject
If it were anyone else following him, they'd just think he was obliviously going about his business, trotting along the rooftops. But Cass may notice his shoulders go briefly stiff after she's been following him for about a block, followed by him forcibly relaxing his posture to be as before.
Once it's been another block and a half, Brock abruptly ducks and rolls to the side, coming up on one knee and facing back toward her, crossbow at the ready.]

He could be found in the city, himself. He'd left the suit behind today, wearing instead a pair of khaki pants, a polo shirt and a leather jacket. He didn't give the girl a second glance as he stumbled into a townsperson who was just about to throw a punch at his neighbor. Smiling sheepishly he holds onto the man for balance, stepping between the pair. He gestures helplessly, trying to indicate an apology. The man huffs, shoving Bond away before stalking off.
As soon as the man leaves Bond straightens. As if a switch was flipped all embarrassment and unsteadiness disappears and he glances around the area once before strolling off. His eyes pass over the girl and he gives her a slight nod]

And then here comes this tall man doing exactly what she had been doing with such an easy air it's actually quite impressive. She knows how well trained a person has to be to so smoothly handle people, so there's automatically a sense of respect for him.
He nods at her and she nods back, an amused smile pulling at her lips. Part of her wants to give him a big thumbs up, but he's trying not to draw attention, so she won't either.
She might follow him for awhile, though. Just to learn more. He's definitely not a city resident and she could always use more friends in the castle.]

After breaking up a few more altercations he slips into an alleyway, waiting for her to follow him so he can make sure that his instincts were right.]

[The city!]
The loss itself also is no added stress to him, because he's been without his voice since he arrived in this place. At least he doesn't have to adapt to it, so he can put all his focus on dealing with whatever is going on and whatever might happen.
he isn't intending to engage with anyone, but he recognizes a face; it's odd, because he never truly met her here, but in the time that some of them had those fake lives and memories of being wizards he had known her well enough. It gives him pause and he decides to approach her with a small nod of greeting, not sure if she'll remember him.]

When he comes over, she nods back and then points to her mouth, then him, then raises an eyebrow curiously. Can he talk? Is he somehow an exemption to the whole thing? She's pretty sure that isn't possible, but you never know.]

Looks around the hallway before looking back at her, his body language suggesting he's wondering if she's seen Steph.]

It probably wouldn't be safe in town for long. The townsfolk probably could feel it too.
Which is why bouncing the last drunk of the night was proving a bit more difficult than normal. Especially without the ability to speak. Mouthing 'GO HOME' only did so much to a scared belligerent drunk.]

He turns like he's going to fight back, but when Cass takes a step toward him he puts his hands up and backs away. Good. Satisfied that he won't be coming back, she turns her attention Gren and tilts her head to the side, taking on a questioning kind of posture.
Are you okay? Is there anyone else she can scare off for you?]

When he catches sight of... some girl in scary looking bat costume. He'll stop and stare for a moment.
What even is this?]

Weird. She cocks her head at him, wondering if he'll approach or just go on doing his own thing.]
