The central hall of Chimera headquarters is today taken up with a pair of tables, one covered with all matter of foods from finger sandwiches and deviled eggs, to salted nuts and chocolate-covered fruits, while the other is littered with nearly every beverage one might think of - tea, coffee, milk, punch, and fruit juices. It wasn't quite the expected spread for a new year's party, but that was because the castle had done them the favor of making any liquid carry the effects of the usual party beverages. A small table near the door, however, had at some point in the day appeared, carrying liquors and champagne for those who actually preferred their alcohol to taste as such. The ghosts stood sentry to keep whatever it was the attendees wanted flowing.

Most of that is likely forgotten near the end of the day, and the arrangement of comfortable chairs in the adjoining office begin to look far more comfortable a place to sit once the room starts to spin a little. Getting air on the balcony is an option, of course, but take care not to fall off of it.

Duke probably doesn't look much like good company, he's had a book in his hands almost the entire night. Although right now its tucked between his elbow and side as he makes a slightly less than sure way back from the snack table. But his magic still functions enough to let him know that...

"You are familiar." He informs her general direction. At this point, though, he's given up some of his act - his eyes are closed.

"I imagine that I do." she answers with a vague tone of amusement. "We have met only rarely, but I daresay the circumstances were memorable, if not what either of us would prefer."

Its probably because he's been drinking that it takes him a moment. But the voice really helps.

"That is a very good point. Although all I really learned from that was you're taller than me." And a better kisser, but that isn't hard to find here.

"Then perhaps we should begin with introductions." She gives a slight nod- it doesn't matter that she's likely realized by now that he can't see; the gesture is ingrained and automatic. "I am called Galadriel."

"Duke, usually." He thinks on that for a moment, and decides he can expand on that a little. Its not like he gives other names- "No one here has decided to make mockery of my lack of social skills to be known as anything else."

Her brow furrows as she processes that. "Do you mean to say that what other names you possess were given in mockery?"

"Usually once or twice. None have managed to stick, although being known as 'that odd hermit near Ehmead Hill' could possibly apply for those who never got further than spotting me a few times." Mostly because he avoids people.

"I am sorry to hear that you have been subjected to such ill-treatment."

"It is mostly old. I am not a social person," Which is a little odd, given where he is at the moment. He might realize that by his tiny bit of a wry look. "and humans are often cruel with words, if not anything else, of those who do not fit in."

"That, I fear, is a trait not exclusive to humans."

That... shouldn't surprise him as much as it does. It isn't that much of a surprise, but Duke has thought humans to be the worst of the worst for a rather long time.

"That.. should not surprise me as much as it does." He more or less mumbles that, thinking through encounters here and home. Here, its much harder for him to tell unless someone brings it up, but home. "... Honest blunt curiosity without realizing it hurts, that was a common trait to Krityans..." Which still isn't the same as what he was thinking of.

"Elves, humans, dwarves- we all of us have the capacity for both cruelty and kindness." She's seen into enough hearts to know that, in the end, race makes far less of a difference than people assume.

"... It is a bias I ought to be working on." That he doesn't like humans, and likes other races more. Its a mix of experience and people watching, okay. Hard to shake something that agrees with what happened.

"Forgive me," she pauses, almost hesitant to ask, but terribly curious. "but are you not human yourself?"

"... Everyone who finds out that I don't like them asks me that." Duke sighs. "I am. It doesn't always take being outside a problem to realize it exists."

... No, it just probably provides more self-loathing than is healthy.

"True enough. Yet you yourself prove that all Men are not the same, do you not?"

"... Not the same. I am not so arrogant to think that despite my avoidance of many of the things that frustrate me most, that I am any better. I am just as bad, if not worse, in other aspects."

"But is your race the reason for these flaws? We all have our faults, of course, but in my long years I have not seen Men to be more troublesome than any other race. Indeed, I have suffered more at the hands of my own kin."

".. If it is not all humans, it is then the ones of my world. It is they who do not listen unless faced with extinction, not the Kritya." And then a little grumpily he adds. "Twice."
