The central hall of Chimera headquarters is today taken up with a pair of tables, one covered with all matter of foods from finger sandwiches and deviled eggs, to salted nuts and chocolate-covered fruits, while the other is littered with nearly every beverage one might think of - tea, coffee, milk, punch, and fruit juices. It wasn't quite the expected spread for a new year's party, but that was because the castle had done them the favor of making any liquid carry the effects of the usual party beverages. A small table near the door, however, had at some point in the day appeared, carrying liquors and champagne for those who actually preferred their alcohol to taste as such. The ghosts stood sentry to keep whatever it was the attendees wanted flowing.

Most of that is likely forgotten near the end of the day, and the arrangement of comfortable chairs in the adjoining office begin to look far more comfortable a place to sit once the room starts to spin a little. Getting air on the balcony is an option, of course, but take care not to fall off of it.

Felix has a surprising amount of tolerance for his build, all things consider. It was what came out of a good amount of practice. He could in fact be quite inebriated, and most people would never be able to tell.

"I could start a serious meeting at any time. You never know," he said with a smirk that belied any bluff he might have been making.

Crowley arches an eyebrow at that.

"Would you really want to chance me bursting into song if you do that? I know a stirring rendition of Hitler only has one Ball, you know."

"That depends. Do you sing better than you dance?" Felix asked with a grin he does not even bother to hide.

Crowley gives him a wan smile in response.

"I do pretty much everything better than I dance."

"Oh, don't despair, darling, you more than make up for it elsewhere..."

He grinned at Crowley over his glass as he went to take a sip.

"Dare I ask who Hitler is, by the way?"

"That we most certainly can."

The demon made a face, something like a grimace, only worse.

"Trust me when I tell you that you are better off not knowing. Let's just say there are some humans that make even Hell recoil and leave it at that."

"Yes, let's leave him and his balls out of this party. This is a new year. Let's not look to the past and look instead to what opportunities we'll have in the future. New people. New sights. New discoveries. New relationships," he said, toasting ever so vaguely in Crowley's direction, "and of course, new chances to annoy those people."

Crowley smirks lightly, raising his glass in response.

"I can definitely get behind that last one."

"I thought you might. Speaking of which, any particular plans for this year in that regard? I hear people from Earth have those...ah...resolutions?"

He didn't especially expect any kind of forewarning from Crowley, regardless of the slightly more privileged position he may or may not hold now, but it was worth asking anyway.

Felix was something in a privileged position. More so than most in the castle, anyway. But he was still Crowley and at his question, the demon laughs.

"Resolutions are such human things. People plan to do something, in order to better themselves, only to fail and return to the norm within a month or two. They always forget that they are trying to change themselves. It takes more than a promise made at the start of the year to accomplish that."

"What does it take, then?" Felix asked idly, twisting his glass in his hand to disguise that his interest in the question was not at all idle. He certainly had little success in changing himself, to the point that he wondered if it were even possible.

Crowley watches him, something like curiosity crossing his features, before taking a sip of his wine.

"I don't know. I've been wondering that much for six millenia."

Felix lets out a slight bark of a laugh that would normally be bit more genteel were he sober. "Well, not much hope for us mortals, then, is there?"

Crowley throws him a toothy grin in return.

"I don't know. You lot are good at pulling yourselves through regardless."

"That's gratifying to hear, even if it comes from an disreputable source." Which wasn't to say that he didn't trust Crowley on his assessment, but he figured Crowley would appreciate being called disreputable.

He really does, it even earns Felix a wink.

"Best sort of source you could ever want, really."

Felix answers him a sly smile and leans back against the nearest wall.

"And how do you arrive and that conclusion, precisely?"

"Oh, you know. It's a skill of mine. Coming to these sorts of conclusions."

"And here I thought it was just your blind optimism."

The demon lets out a low, throaty chuckle.

"That's more for getting in the way and biting me in the ass later."

"Better that than more uncomfortable things. Hubris, for example."

Even as he said it, he wasn't sure if he was talking about himself. The drink made it a little difficult to think all that deeply. Which was perfectly acceptable.

"Oh come on now, nothing wrong with a little hubris now and again."

He laughed lightly. Of course Crowley would advocate hubris.

"The problem with hubris is that it's hard to regulate something you usually only recognize in hindsight."

The demon laughs and gives a shrug.

"Sometimes it's better to just sit back and enjoy hindsight."

"I can't recall any moment when I have, but perhaps my recall is suffering," he said, taking a demonstrative drink of his wine.
