Alcohol, taken in sufficient quantities

Rating: Pg-13 for heavy drinking, at least

The central hall of Chimera headquarters is today taken up with a pair of tables, one covered with all matter of foods from finger sandwiches and deviled eggs, to salted nuts and chocolate-covered fruits, while the other is littered with nearly every beverage one might think of - tea, coffee, milk, punch, and fruit juices. It wasn't quite the expected spread for a new year's party, but that was because the castle had done them the favor of making any liquid carry the effects of the usual party beverages. A small table near the door, however, had at some point in the day appeared, carrying liquors and champagne for those who actually preferred their alcohol to taste as such. The ghosts stood sentry to keep whatever it was the attendees wanted flowing.

Most of that is likely forgotten near the end of the day, and the arrangement of comfortable chairs in the adjoining office begin to look far more comfortable a place to sit once the room starts to spin a little. Getting air on the balcony is an option, of course, but take care not to fall off of it.

Considering what he knew of her lifespan, he was not sure what difference that would make.

"Do you mean to say that that length of time would make a difference in the state of your relations?"

It makes quite a difference, considering that Thorin won't live long enough to see her time. But that's hardly the sort of information one tosses around at parties.

"The rise of a common enemy can make strange allies."

"I have heard that, yes. But you say he does not hold you high regard. What is your estimation of his character?" Felix asked, more curious for his own sake than anything else. The personal details he was keeping him himself.

Galadriel actually has to pause and consider this for a moment. She has a great deal of thoughts on the matter, but she's never before had reason to express them. "There is much he must learn before I would see him near any throne. He is entirely too blunt, he is too quick to speak and too slow to listen, and his manners leave much to be desired." She pauses. "However, it is plain enough that he is a loyal soul and cares deeply for those he considers his own. I have no doubt that he is good to those who find themselves in his favor."

He's forgotten how forthcoming she can be, at least when it comes to people that are not herself. As a character review goes, it's rather mixed, but there are certainly worse things she could have said about him. Felix is not sure if any of this encourages him. At least Ashura hasn't befriended someone cruel, but it does not help him not feel at least a little bit threatened. As if he had something to lose that he has not already thrown away.

"Luckily thrones are in short supply in this castle," Felix replied with a smirk and perhaps a little too airily to be truly nonchalant.

She gives a quiet laugh. "Yes, I suppose that is of little concern here." If she notices that there's something behind the question, she isn't mentioning it- just as she had not questioned Ashura's exact relationship with the dwarf, for all she might have guessed. For all her meddling, there are somethings that are decidedly not her business and other people's romantic relationships were one of them (grandchildren excepted). Unless she's asked for advice, she's going to keep her silence on the matter.

For all their geniality, Felix hadn't quite developed the same relationship to the elf that his former lover had, and likely still would not have even if he might have had the same opportunity to think of her in a grandmotherly way. Familial confidants are something of a new concept to the wizard, and it took quite a bit for him to speak to his brother about anything of meaning.

Getting a laugh out of her makes him grin, however. "I only hope we can all find way a co-exist here."

"Oh, I am certain we can. I speak of cultural tensions, not out-right aggressions. The worst you have to fear between us, at least, is a few harsh words."
