Who: Legolas and Tauriel; OPEN (one or both of the elves might reply so they can keep a very close watch on the dragon)
What: Two elves hatch a baby dragon...
When: Backdated to during the baby plot
Where: The castle and anywhere outside
Rating: G, I guess
[Closed to Tauriel]
When he had woken that morning to find an egg in his room, Legolas was more than a little surprise. Elves had clear and long memory, that egg had not been there the night before. At first he'd thought to ignore it, clearly it didn't belong and the owner would come for it eventually. Curiosity, however, got the better of him and he carefully picked it up to find the note.
A note that told him to find Tauriel.
That was strange in itself but he carefully tucked her egg under his arm and grabbed his knife, bow and arrows and left to Tauriel's room. It wasn't difficult, her room was just a floor above him. So it wasn't long before he was rapping lightly against her door.
"Tauriel. There is something you need see."
[Around the castle]
There were others, he could see, with strange young creatures following them. While a dragon wasn't strange to him (he knew stories and had seen the damage done by Smaug to Lake Town), it wasn't something people normally had following them.
And inside the castle there was plenty to draw its attention. Whether it be drapery or people, nothing was uninteresting to the little beast. And nothing was free of the trouble a dragon might bring. Already a series of hiccups from the small dragon could have nearly set an entire room ablaze. It was only thanks to the fact that it was just hatched that kept disaster at bay.
[Outside - anywhere]
Going outside, they had discovered, was much better and safer for them and for the baby dragon. There was more space for it to run and explore, to try flying without smashing into anyone or anything. Sorry if neither dragon parent can keep the little menace from harassing you.

"What is it?"
no subject
What had he gotten himself into this time? Couldn't the castle leave him alone for once?
no subject
"Legolas, what is going on?"
no subject
"Would that I knew. I awoke to find the egg in my room and a note that bade me find you."
no subject
Except that is exactly what happens. That crack in the egg kept growing and there were sounds coming from within it now, high pitched little whistles that sounded frustrated and annoyed.
And then the shell gave way and crumbled in Tauriel's hands revealing...
"Valar!"
Tauriel very nearly dropped the thing, but it was a newborn creature and as such some sort of instinct made her hold on to the still somewhat fragile little life in her hands.
Surely it could not be what it looked like?

"Is that..." He paused, licking suddenly dry lips before trying again. "Is that a dragon?"
no subject
"I... are they so small at birth?"
Maybe it was just some sort of really odd-looking lizard.
no subject
"I do not know, I have never seen a baby dragon."
no subject
And it was certainly trying to bite, though it did not seem to be malicious about it exactly. It was rather hard to tell.
no subject
It almost seemed like a hungry kind of 'biting' but he couldn't be sure.
no subject
In her experience it seemed to be at least among the first insticts of most newborn things to feed.
"What do you suppose it eats?"
no subject
"Meat, I would think. I can check the kitchens for something." Or wish for it but the castle could be finicky.
no subject
"The sharp teeth would support that thought..."
Said through gritted teeth as she tried to pry the little baby's head away from the injury it had just inflicted.
no subject
"Perhaps we ought muzzle it until we have found food." He didn't care if the castle approved. Tauriel was already hurt and the thing had just hatched.
"I am no healer but this should hold."
outside
She hangs back a little, watching, before she decides to approach.
"Legolas. Tauriel." A nod is given to each.
no subject
"Lady Galadriel." He dips his head politely, hand to his chest before glancing back at the dragon. Very rarely does he let his eyes off of it, though Tauriel is better suited with eyes unchanged by the castle.

It is at least a relief that she is sharing this experience with someone she knows. Having to do it with a stranger would be even more frustrating.
no subject
It says something about the time she's spent here that she is able to discuss a dragon with such an amicable tone. She's not quite casual about it, but her expression is certainly more one of curiosity than any sort of nervousness.
no subject
"Ah, it hatched from an egg and has followed us since."
no subject
Should she and Legolas be choosing a name for the dragon as well? It might be convenient, but it would also feel... a little bit odd.
no subject
It's meant as a reassurance- that there's nothing inherently evil about the small creature before them.
no subject
"He has already started breathing fire." So yes, a touch more trouble. And while Galadriel may be right, Legolas can't help the wary glance he gives the dragon now.
no subject
Usually up until it tries to set fire to her hair again.
"Admittedly there does not seem to be much malice to it. More like... misguided play."
