[Open Log]
Who: Danny Phantom and Anyone
What: Danny is practicing his ice powers, and things get a little out of control
Where: The forest just outside the castle
When: Now
It had been a while since Danny had gotten much practice with his powers in. With everything else going on, he just hadn't had the time.
Which is why he headed out away from the castle to do this. His ice powers could get a little unpredictable if he went too long without using them. Like new Ice Age unpredictable.
He stands in the middle in the clearing and breathes deep as he starts to give himself a pep talk.
"Okay Fenton, you can do this, No one else around. Remember, I control the ice. The ice does not control me."
He continues repeating the mantra under his breath as he draws out the cold energy.
And then it explodes, leaving a thin coat of ice all over the nearby trees.

"Nice job, Danny, though icin' over everything's kinda useless when you've a specific target in mind, aye?"
no subject
"Actually, I didn't mean to do that. I was trying to concentrate it."
no subject
"Ahh, I gotcha. Tryin' ta master yuir powers an' all o' that. Might be able ta help ya with that, if ya want. I'm no expert by any stretch, but after all the time I spent masterin' my own powers, I might have a few things I can say about yours."
David clenches his fists, and causes his whole body to catch fire, which starts to thaw the rest of the clearing.
"Startin' fires with my mind's one of the first powers I ever had. Though you're on the opposite end o' the spectrum, fire an' ice are really just manipulation o' the temperature o' the air. In yuir case, y'gotta think less about makin' ice, an' more about makin' a specific somethin' cold, by robbin' it of it's energy."

Danny cuts his hovering and lands soundlessly on the ground.
"But its a little more complicated than that for me." He taps at his chest. "See, ghosts have cores of energy. We're built around them. And my core is ice. That's where my cold energy comes from, and its building up all the time. If I don't release it..."
He shivers.
"Lets just say there was a good thing there was a plant ghost the size of a city to target all that ice at."
no subject
Aye, so y'just need ta make an effort ta use yuir powers ta keep 'em under control. That's a wee bit more doable. If necessary, I can balance out the ice with some fire, so you're not freezin' over the whole forest or whatever tryin' ta do what y'need ta do.
[He pauses for a second.]
That reminds me. Y'know that wee phasing trick o' yuirs? I got ta thinkin' about it, an' remembered that it's a page in my book, too. It's not uncommon for me ta forget what powers I have an' don't have, heh.
[To demonstrate, David walks over to a nearby tree, and sticks his arm in it, waving it around as his hand passes through to the other side.]
no subject
[Danny stares.]
How did you do that?
no subject
No problem, Danny. If y'really wanna get fancy, I could probably get us some time in that wee Danger Room near the castle. It's a wee invention o' my da's, built specifically for folks like us ta train our powers an' such. Privacy an' safety an' all o' that.
[David grins.]
Well, with me, my powers're all tied inta my self-confidence. The more I can believe in myself, the better I can use my powers. Like...[He makes a vague gesture with his free hand.] I've gotta really believe I can do somethin', or have a real need of it, an' the power just comes ta me.
[He pulls his phased hand free, with no seeming ill effect.]
I'm probably not the best teacher as far as technique goes, since I just sorta fly by the seat o' my pants most o' the time, but I can take whatever ya can throw at me, so we can work it out from there.
no subject
And hey, I hear you there. It isn't like there's a lot of half-ghosts flying around. I mostly make things up as I go along.
no subject
Aye, it is. My da made it up specifically ta push super-powered folks like us t'our limits. Even if the castle robs us o' our powers more times than not, it never hurts ta be prepared, aye?
[And David smiles.]
Yuir a man after my own heart. My da...tried ta help me, but there's only so much help ya can give a bloke when he's only in control o' himself every once in a while. Figure the least I can do is try ta help someone else, now that I've got myself in order. Think my da'd want me ta try, at least.
no subject
[Danny cringes at the thought.]
Yeah, I could use all the help I can get.
Your Da?
no subject
[David nods.]
Sorry, my father. His name was Charles Xavier, an' he was a teacher, of a sort. Took it upon himself ta run a school ta teach people like us how ta control an' use our powers for the good of all. Only he didn' really know how ta help me, no matter how hard he tried.
[David thinks back over the years, of all the different ways his father had tried to "help" him with his unstable mutation and mental health, and how spectacularly they had both failed in the endeavor. It wasn't until David had met and worked with Merzah the Mystic that he had made any forward progress at all, and that was only because for David, Merzah's commune had been the end of the line. Where all broken psychics went.]
no subject
Not that I ever would have trusted anyone who tried to set up something like that back home. You know?
no subject
[David pinches at the bridge of his nose.]
They meant well, an' worked pretty good as a team, but...I was never part o' that. Too unstable, my da used ta say.
