[ Gwaine has not been educated as to the fine art of wishing. This not only explains why he is not currently sitting atop a mountain of the most random collection of wished-for items since Spike the dragon grew several meters, but also why he is walking into the Lux and heading for the bar. He has no money on him and he is not used to drinking so much water so he is carefully eyeing the place. When he fails to spot anyone, he slides under and behind it. Stealing the first bottle he can find, he attempts to shuffle out without being seen, the bottle hidden against his chest. ]

Your moves are kinda textbook for that.

[ He stops, the blade tip dipping down. ]

Textbook?

[ Is that an insult? Does he need to take the sword to its owner's head? ]

[wilder]

It means it looks like you've had a teacher. Not self-taught.

[impetuous]

Oh. [ Okay, not insulting. He returns to his exercises. ] I've had a couple. Mostly it was just my sister and me. Father taught her the basics and she taught me.

[wilder]

[he snorts] Sisters do have that annoying habit of picking up that stuff.

[And entering into tournaments just to challenge you to duels sigh; he keeps watching]

Stop treating them as separate swings.

[impetuous]

Huh?

[ He glances over to Zelos before concentrating on the sword again. He repeats the previous move, this time correcting for Zelos' suggestion. ]

[He smirks a bit at seeing the kid trying to improve, not that his expression is anything but cheerful most of the time]

Swordplay should be fluid, one swing doesn't end, but only becomes another and another after that. Jerky movements leaves you open and leads to sorer muscles a lot faster.

[impetuous]

Where did you learn?

[wilder]

The royal guard of Tethe'alla. I was trained as a knight.

[impetuous]

[ The tip of the blade hits ground as Gwaine's jaw drops open. ]

Really? You're a knight?!

[wilder]

Ahahaha, that's right~!

[Not a lie! Just...the Chosen status tends to take precedence. ]

[ Gwaine makes a moue. On the one hand, knights are the epitome of everything he wishes he could be. On the other, only noblemen are knights. ]

So you're a noble?

[wilder]

[Oh he knows that look. But he's not about to lie about it. ]

That's right.

[impetuous]

I hate nobles.

[wilder]

[He just snorts at that]

Then maybe you aren't a complete dummy after all.

[impetuous]

You don't like them?

[wilder]

[He makes a thoughtful noise] I don't hate them, no.

But I know a lot of them don't care about anyone but themselves. So do a lot of other people, but they have the power to act that way.

[impetuous]

[ He holds the sword parallel to his body, tip pointing down. He fiddles with the hilt. ]

My father was a knight. He died for the king. After he died, the king refused to help us. Mother said she'd die before she saw me become a knight.

[wilder]

[he scoffs]

Sounds like a real SOB.

[impetuous]

[ Gwaine frowns, lips pressing together in a thin line. ]

[wilder]

-- Forget I said anything.

[Don't want people yelling at him for teaching kids bad language; he sighs]

So cause of that jerk, you hate all nobles huh?

[impetuous]

[ He shrugs, preferring idly swinging the sword than looking at Zelos. ]

[wilder]

[He's quiet for a long moment as he debates what to say, idly playing with one of the knives on the table. ]

...I get you.

I used to hate a certain group of people, because my mother was murdered by one.

[impetuous]

[ Gwaine blinks at Zelos, lips parting as he cants his head to the side. ]

Why was she...?

[wilder]

[another pause before he talks; his voice pointedly detached. Everyone in Meltokio knew the story, it's not something he could exactly hide...but he hated thinking about it]

They meant to kill me. My old man had had an affair with a woman from that group. After he died...I was to inherit his title.

The woman he had the affair...decided to murder me so her daughter would inherit the title instead, so she could have a better life. But she missed and my mother got caught in the crossfire.
