Who: Kanaya Maryam, Rose Lalonde, Jane Crocker, and YOU!
What: Kanaya introduces her human friends to some Alternian cuisine.
When: Nighttime!
Where: In the kitchen. Feel free to jump in and sample some potentially strange alien food!
Rating: Rated E for Everyone ;)
It isn't often that Kanaya meets a human eager to try food from her culture. Usually they squirm or make some other visible expression of disgust. After living with them for a few months now, she's grown quite accustomed to their reactions.
That's why the troll was surprised when Jane insisted on trying some food native to her planet -- especially when this particular human had seemed the most revolted about Alternian cuisine. Kanaya had asked her several times if she was certain about her decision, and each time, Jane had uncomfortably insisted that she was.
Oh, well. If she absolutely insists!
A large plate full of grubloaf sits on the table before the three girls (Rose had been a last-minute guest), warm from the oven. Near it are a couple of empty plates, forks, knives, and a small gravy bowl full of goopy yellow sauce.
Kanaya sits on a stool by the table and pours herself a tall glass of russet-colored blood, freshly wished and presented by the ghosts. "Are you ready to sample some freshly leavened grubloaf, Jane?"

Unfortunately, it was that kind of thinking that had gotten her into this experience. As Jane stared at the plate of grubloaf, she tried to imagine that it was something else. Meatloaf, preferably. As long as she told herself it was meatloaf, she was positive she could stomach it. And she wasn't alone, either! Rose had joined them, and it was nice to finally meet her in person...even if it was over alien cuisine.
Jane glanced up when Kanaya addressed her, and tried to give her best smile. "Ready as I'll ever be, I think."

None of Kanaya's cuisine is unfamiliar to her, of course, after her recent immersion in troll culture. That doesn't make the grubloaf look anymore appetizing, though, and it's only out of politeness to Kanaya that she's agreed to attend this little taste test.

She's decided that this will end up being more amusing than anything else. This really doesn't have to be a big deal at all, but Kanaya has been around humans long enough to notice their aversion to foods they're unfamiliar with.
Apperance-wise, the grubloaf does resemble human meatloaf, save for its light green center. She's never viewed it as a favorite dish, but it had always been a reliable meal back at home.
Her smile is a lot more playful when she pushes the gravy bowl towards Jane. "Don't forget the mucus. You'll want a copious amount of it on your grubloaf."

She had no idea what the yellow stuff in the gravy bowl was, but when Kanaya called it mucus, Jane had to fight down the urge to gag. Why in blue blazes would anyone, alien or otherwise, want to eat mucus?!? She stuttered in shock before she said, "Ah, you know, maybe ketchup would work better! I'm not really partial to, um, mucus..."

Ketchup? On grubloaf?! She turns to shake her head at Jane. "Oh, no. Ketchup is entirely too mild. The mucus is much more piquant, which suits the grubloaf."
She sips at her blood and grins, lips parting to show her fangs. "Try it. You'll see what I mean." She pauses. "That is, unless you don't wish to sample the grubloaf anymore. I assure you that I won't take too much offense."

"Well," Jane said hesitantly, eyeing the mucus, "Out of all of us, you are the expert..."
Carefully, she lifted the gravy bowl and tilted it ever so slightly, watching the mucus drip onto the grubloaf. She only wanted enough to just coat the top, not too much...

She finally reaches forward and slips a tiny sliver of grubloaf onto her own plate. Taking the gravy boat from Jane's end of the table, she lets just the thinist stream dribble out. Perfecto.

So here she was, making her way into the kitchen in search of some snacks when-- oh.
What's that stuff. On that table. With those girls.
She knows it's rude (incredibly rude even!!) but she finds herself staring anyway. That doesn't look like something she's ever seen before!
