TW: TORTURE

You're in a hallway, everything cement and metal, hard and cold. There are exposed pipes and harsh lighting. In fact, the only sound is the buzz of the lights.

There are three metal doors in front of you. Choose a door.

[He gazes at Steve, trying to place him.] They're watching. Needles under the skin, burning and burning and burning...

[valuedstrength]

[Steve shakes his head. There's anger to replace the sick feeling in his gut and it leaks into his voice.] Not while I'm around.

[He sucks in an unsteady breath to calm himself.] I'm going to get you out, Peeta. You're gonna be safe. Just calm down and don't fight me.

[peeta_bread]

I killed them. I killed them all. It's my fault.

[But he doesn't thrash around, seeming to trust Steve.

[valuedstrength]

[He's taking the opportunity to remove the remaining straps. The sooner he gets Peeta out of here, the better. Steve is somber at Peeta's remarks. He remembers that conversation when Jorge locked him away all too well.]

You told me that before. I don't think it's true.

[peeta_bread]

They told me. They're gonna be mad. Strap me down, cut me open.

[And as Steve is undoing those straps, they'll be serenaded by the horrible sounds of screaming next door.]

Again and again and again.

[valuedstrength]

[Steve does everything in his power not to flinch at that scream. He's going to keep it together and save whoever is in the next room. He got four hundred men out alive from that base. Two people will be nothing. Steve will keep telling himself that until he's safely out the door with them.]

No. [Once those straps are undone he'll try to half carry, half drag Peeta out of the room. What to do after that Steve will make up as he goes along.]

On your feet, Peeta. We're leaving.

[peeta_bread]

[Peeta's pretty weak. He relies on Steve heavily. The door opens and a man in a white uniform and a mask on walks in, looking startled.]

Drop him and come with me.

[Peeta tries to back away and, judging by the horrified look on his face, this is one of the people that has been torturing him.]

[valuedstrength]

[Steve looks straight at the man, back to Peeta, before returning his gaze back to the masked man.]

Yeah, sure. [For a second it seems he is going to comply. He lets Peeta back up, but it's all show. Steve takes advantage of his amplified speed and strength to move forward and punch the man hard enough in the head to knock him out cold.]

[peeta_bread]

[The man falls over, knocked out cold. Peeta lets out a scream, confused by the violence. He knocks over the table with the knives and needles in his fit.

The door is still open, leading out to an empty hallway that looks similar to the one he was originally in.]

[Steve goes to retrieve him as gently as he can.] It's okay, Peeta. I would never hurt you. I just couldn't let that man do anything else to you. It's okay.
