[Nightmares are never fun, no matter where you go. But things take a bit of a turn for the worse when you've jumped into the mind of a ninja. A ninja that can look into other people's heads, to be exact.

So which path will you pick?]

[He'll be doing his best to get this omelette working with one hand. Failing mostly, but hey]

Nah, my dad taught me that. Said he got his hand trapped under someone's foot on a mission, and he would have kicked the bucket if his teammates hadn't jumped in to save him.

You can always count on your teammates. But anything I can learn that keeps me alive is a helpful skill. [cracks another egg]

[He wants to point out that no, no you can't. Eventually everyone will walk out on you and that's just how life is. But given her current mental state, his feelings on this matter probably wouldn't help]

Not really. There are much worse places. [Like here, lmfao :/] And I've learned how to fight since I was a little kid, so it's not strange.

...I guess that's true. [He gives a soft shrug of his shoulders, as unpleasant as his upbringing was, he was never required to learn to fight. For a start, it wouldn't have made much difference against Brett and Chett, they were stronger than him AND worked as a team. It was far easier to find a hiding place in the barn and leave them wreck their havok elsewhere]

Don't you wish sometimes you didn't have to fight, though? You know, have a peaceful childhood?

[shakes her head]

Peace doesn't just come out of nowhere. You have to fight for it -- and if not you, then someone else. And knowing the things I do lets me protect the people I care about. I would never give that up.

[That was true, even in his world, there wasn't always peace. Hell, he'd done enough himself to ensure that]

That's pretty noble of you.

Not really. I just hate not being able to do anything.

[He'll finish off with the omelette, trying to one-handedly get it onto a plate]

The fact you want to do something means more than you think. [That you care a whole awful lot]

[she'll move to hold the pan so he can push it out with the spatula]

... I guess. [said in the tone of, "and look at what good that did me"]

No, really. That one person can make all the difference.

[His world depends on that one person, after all. He smiles as the concoction finally makes it to the plate]

[she'll move to take the plate, but her hand slips, and the plate begins to fall ... and instinctively, she lets go of his hand to catch the plate.

w h o o p s guess who's going to slowly start fading away any second now? ]

[Oh. Oh that is not good. That is not good at all. He looks at his fading form in horror, before reaching out to take her hand again.

Except no, it's fading through. Damnit no, he promised her. He can't leave her like this, not in this place]

[yep she's just kind of staring in an OH FUCK I KNEW IT kind of way. she tries to grasp desperately at his hands again, but ...

welp, now she'll just be trying not to cry, ignoring the broken plate and eggs on the floor]

[He does his best to hold his panic back. He doesn't care where he's going, what will happen to him. He's a lost cause anyway. But she can't be left here alone. She can't be forced to face that again, talking in the journal to conversations long gone.

He makes another desperate grab, but he's already far too faded away]

Listen, I'll find a way back okay? I'll come back and get you.

[Through hell or high water, he would find a way to get back. But, as inevitable in the scope of the dream, he fades away to nothing, leaving her alone again]

[she just shakes her head, wiping her eyes]

You can't. That's not how it works.
