[There's a dull throbbing that keeps insisting on being noticed between his eyes. Steve pays it no mind, picks up a plate, and heads back to the kitchen. That area seems too warm for comfort. Kitchens are supposed to be warm but, not that warm and then suddenly cold. Again Steve pays it no mind at all. He forces himself to move through the area without shivering.

He will keep this going throughout his shift without complaint. Steve knows what is going on. It's impossible to miss for someone who ill as often as he was at home. He's sick again. The fact that it had somehow eluded him here for this long only made him more determined to power through it. Unfortunately for Steve, will power can't quite cover up a red face and glossy eyes. Someone was going to call him on it eventually.]

[Things had quietened down and Bonnie took advantage of that, taking a few moments for herself in the middle of her shift. There were a few others working tonight and she had noticed Steve on her way into the kitchen. It looked like something was up with him and Bonnie had planned to talk to him when she found the time. They hadn't properly talked but she knew who he was because she was friends with Bucky.

Bonnie comes up to him, a concerned look on her face.]

Hey, you don't look well. Maybe you should take the rest of the night off?

[valuedstrength]

[Steve smiles at her. He knows that look pretty well. He appreciates what she is trying to do, but still had no intention of stopping what he was doing.]

It's alright. There's not a lot of time left. [No sense arguing about the sick part when Bonnie clearly means well. He's stubborn not rude.]

I can make it to the end.

[bonniewitch]

And I thought Bucky was the more stubborn one. [If he doesn't leave, Bonnie might resort to pushing him out the door.]

You'll only make yourself worse if you continue. You need to get some rest.

[valuedstrength]

You know Bucky?

[He's surprised and reviewing mental notes. Bucky has actually mentioned Bonnie to him before.

Plus he's stalling.]

[bonniewitch]

Yeah, I met him here and we're good friends. [A beat.] The fairies made us kiss back in December and that's how we met.

I'm Bonnie.

[valuedstrength]

That was it. [Steve nods.] He told me about it- in the most respectful way possible.

[No need to get Bucky in trouble.] I'm Steve. Nice to meet you, Bonnie.

[bonniewitch]

It's good to finally meet you, Steve. [She smiles.] Bucky has told me a little about you. All good things of course.

I still think you should go get some rest though.

[blue_sniper]

[Of course, Bucky just happens to be in the right place in the right time for once. He actually came to see Steve, since he hasn't seen him in a few days. And the moment he sees him, he knows. So here Steve, have a Bucky glaring at you from a booth. If he don't go over to him, he's going to to come over there. And Steve probably doesn't want him to.]

[He's heading over there. Steve knows this is one concerned voice he cannot escape from.]

Bucky I know what you're going to say and it's not that bad. Just let me finish this shift and get some soup. I bet I'll be fine by tomorrow.

[blue_sniper]

You always say you'll be fine. And in all these years, not once has it ever happened. [And it's been a lot of them. Bucky never believes you anymore, Steve.]

This is different. I've never been alright this long before. Maybe this is just a fluke.

[Don't make him be the sick kid, Bucky.]

[blue_sniper]

[He's not trying to make him be the sick kid. he's trying to make him care about his welfare. And that was probably the wrong thing to say.] ...You've been sick for how long?

[valuedstrength]

Just a day or two. [It's the truth. Really.]

[whatialways_do]

[Max has been working the entire shift with him behind the bar, and she's been picking up on things here and there. When he swings back around to the bar again, she picks up on the flush of his cheeks]

You feelin' okay?

[valuedstrength]

[Steve nods. He's not sure how much he can get away with when it came to Max but, he sure would try.]

I'm fine. How are you? Do you need anything?

[whatialways_do]

[shakes her head]

I'm good for now. Why don't you sit for a bit -- I'll get you something to drink.

[valuedstrength]

[Looking around. When he's satisfied everyone looks okay for now he'll nod.]

I am a little thirsty.

[whatialways_do]

What can I get ya?

[valuedstrength]

Just some water.

[huntersdaughter]

[Oh, look. It's the Boss/Big Sister. Good luck hiding this stuff from her.]

Steve? [INSTANT WORRY. Holy crap how is he even standing?]

Are you... green? Seriously, did St. Patrick's Day come early and dye your skin a bit... [Head tilt of 'oh... you are kidding me with this.']

You should not be working right now. [Arms. Crossed.]

[valuedstrength]

[Oh come on. He was really going to let Bonnie cover him to avoid this! In any case, Steve looks very much of the part of a little brother getting caught doing something he shouldn't really do. Of course since this is Steve it's something perfectly innocent like showing up to work sick so as not to bother anyone. For a second he considers going with Bucky's lie and just doesn't. He can't lie to her intentionally.]

Bonnie said she'd cover for me. [So you're not mad, right? Right?]

[huntersdaughter]

Cover for you as in take your shift so you can go home? Because, that's the only acceptable definition to that sentence right now.

[valuedstrength]

That's what she wanted. [There's a definite tone suggesting it was not what he wanted.]

[huntersdaughter]

Mm, but that's not what you're doing.

[valuedstrength]
